Tomorrow is my youngest son's first birthday. This last year as gone by so quick!
We aren't planning any huge party or anything. In fact we'll probably celebrate on Saturday because hubby will work tomorrow until 9pm, but he'll be out at 2 on Saturday. I'll make a cake, and buy him a present, and we'll all sing Happy Birthday and take some pictures. We probably won't invite anyone over though. The only ones to invite would be my in laws, and they've been being pains in the rear lately. So my son will celebrate with his parents and 4 siblings... that should be enough! That's all we did for the toddler's birthday too, and my oldest son's most recent birthday.
What do you do for your baby's first birthday?

We were living on the farm and I did not drive at that time. We drive to the nearest town and bought him a train with a battery. I made a cake for him that we ate. And that was that. when they were older we would invite the children of the people that worked on the farm and have more of a celebration. But we never went overboard on Birthdays. Enjoy your baby. Oh, can you send me a piece of cake? Blessings

If I could I'd scan the cake, e-mail it to you, and you could print it out over there, unfortunatly I think it would make a big mess.

I love the first birthday it is such a special one no matter how many kids one has. I never did loads for their 1st birthdays just enough to make it special but nothing major, I mean at that age they have not really got a clue anyway I always looked at it as more of a celebration for me and not anyone else!! I hope that he had a lovely day, well all of you had a lovely day and not too much hassle with your in laws!

We're doing the celebration today since hubby had to work yesterday. He'll be getting out of work momentarily, and I have the cake in the oven right now. I just have to finish that and wrap some gifts and we'll probably celebrate right after dinner.
So far as the in laws go, they haven't even called or sent a card or anything. We haven't spoken to them in over a week, and I doubt they have any clue what our plans are. I expect to keep it that way, lol.

HAppy birthday to him and congrats on making it to a year and still having all your hair lol espeically with four other children on top of that! wow. i'm impressed. I think i'd have a wig by now lol its hard work!!
My first daughters first birthday we were in ontario away from all our family, so we just had pizza and cake with a close friend. She had a friend only a month older then her in ontario that she spent almost every day with cause i babysat for her mother.
Her second birthday we where in NS where all our family lives plus the close friends came down with us to visit, so we had a huge gathering in a resteraunt where we had lots of good food and cake.
My second daughters first birthday is coming up the end of march, i bet we will have a family oriented party for her too. mm i love pizza and cake ;)

I tried to get my good friend to come down for the weekend, but she can't afford to make the trip right now, and as I said, my in laws are being pains. So it will just be us.

For my kids 1st birthdays we had parties and invited close family and friends over. We bought their cakes at giant eagle because they give you a free "smash" cake that is just for the baby to dive into. Ofcourse our girls wanted nothing to do with that lol. Now our youngest dug right into it. I think he probably ate atleast half of it and had the rest all over himself and his highchair. We did birthday parties every year but now we decided once they turn 5 then they won't get a party every year. We'll do something special with them. My daughter turned 6 in September and we took her and 2 friends to Chuck e cheese.

I had previously decided we were going to stop doing big parties when the children turned 10, but after the disaster of the twins birthday party a few months ago, I've decided parties are done with all together. I might try to do something special like you've done if I can afford to, but we're not going to have a huge party and spend lots of money only to be disappointed like we were this past November. I'm thinking mostly we'll just do family parties like I'm doing for the baby.

I'm so sorry I got to this discussion late, but a very happy slightly belated birthday to your little one.
When my youngest turned one, we had a family 'party' at home with some nice food. It was more for the benefit of the bigger one than for the baby though. One of our neighbours popped round for a slice of cake, but that was the extent of the excitement.

Happy birthday to your sweet little boy! We generally had a family party with Grand parents and cousins and such. We have a fairly small immediate family. I only have 2 kids so it was a big deal for each of them but I know that with bigger families, the younger ones often have a bit smaller celebration. That's probably pretty normal and a natural thing to do.
We did cake and icecream. That sort of thing.

I wanted a big party for my first child's first birthday, but it didn't quite work out so well due to finances. For the twins we had a bit of a party, with some family and friends over, but back in those days we did a lot of parties because we had a lot of family and friends. Over the years we've lost touch with a lot of friends (and some family) and others have passed on. So the biggest reason we don't do big parties anymore is because we can't think of enough people to invite. As I said, it's pretty much just my in laws, and I can only handle so much of them.

Pass on my blessings to the birthday baby though he’s of course too young to understand the hullabaloo around him! Celebrating on Saturday is a good idea… we do the same. As it is weekdays are too busy for everybody and with the next day being Sunday, we can party late into the night!
We too keep it in the family…for my son’s birthdays we celebrate it with my in-laws and parents and a few close friends. It was the same for this 1st birthday too! now his 10th one is coming up this July and he wants a big bash…but we are not too keen on it.

For my son's first birthday we had him a party. We had mostly family and a few close friends over. My son's birthday is in May and it was very warm so we had it out in the back yard. We did hamburgers and hot dogs and we had birthday cake too. I thought it went really well. His second birthday party was kinda the same. We had it at home in the back yard with family and friends but this time we just had finger foods and birthday cake.

Happy B-day to your baby. I know they grow up so fast. My daughter just turned one on christmas day. We had a small party for her the weekend prior to Christmas. We just had a few family members, nothing real big. We got her, her own smash cake, and ice cream. We got her a couple of toys. The fisherprice chair with the story book, and lamp was a great present she plays with it constantly. When children are this young they are just happy to have their family celebrate with them. I think that it is a good idea to have small parties when they are this young. That way they don't get overwhelmed or overly tired. Well hope your son enjoys his birthday. The thing I have learned in the past year with my daughter is not to take any time you have with them for granted, because they do grow up way to fast. :)

My son's first birthday is on 19th of this month and i am very-very excited.I have started a discussion on it as to how i should celebrate the first birthday and members gave some very valuable responses.Do take some pictures so that you can show to him when he grows up.Go with decorations but do not be extravagant. We have decided to cut on the celebrations and make a fixed deposit in his name so that it may be useful at the time of his growing up.

My son's first birthday it was Me, my son, my dad, my brother, and his wife. I bought a cake and he got a few gifts, but that was it.
My daughter's first birthday it was just me, my son, my daughter, and my mom. We had a normal dinner and a cake that I made. Oh, and a few gifts.
I have never had a party for my kids on their birthdays. My son had his 9th birthday on the 10th of this month. It was me, my kids, my parents, and my sister. My daughter will be 2 on the 23rd of this month. It will probably just be me and my kids and my mom.

Happy b-day to your little one. My sons birthday is in two days. So excited he is turning two. Its hard to imagine how fast they grow untill you witness the years go by fast. If you just want to do some simple celebration with your husband, you and your little one then just buy one of those baby cakes. Give it to your little one. Maybe a gift or two. Trust me it doesn't take much that first birthday. I went all out for no reason.
