Such as some people don't know the different between spyware and virus. they think both r same. spyware and virus r not the same thing. virus will distroy ur hardware. but spyware just collect info of ur PC and send them in a Web Location. U can Easily Prevent Spyware if u have some General Knowledge about Computer. Using a FireWall Can Coz u Trouble but if u can configure perfectly than keep those spyware coming to u pc and that will be no prob for u. some people have wrong idea bout Ad-ons and tool bar. they thing those r spyware. but dude its a program like java that give u access to many website. different website designed by different programming language. all r not designed by java, php, asp etc. even one full webpage never written in 1 language. so u have to use those toolbar and ad-ons. if u need more info than u can ask.

Spyware and adware are more harmful than you say because they can bog down your compter and make it run very slow. Also, a firewall won't keep all spyware and adware out no matter how good it is or how "perfectly" ones computer is configured. If someone can configure a computer that perfectly, they should be out making lots of money working for software companies, or busninesses or governments and not hanging around here. But of course no one can ever reach perfection and even people who are extremely good with computers and software like to give help or the opposite and like to create viruses, spyware, adware, etc. just for fun and devilment and maybe to make money in spite of teh fact they can probably make as much using their talent and knowledge legally.

You are right in saying that virus is different from spyware, as it is also different from trojans. However, nowadays it seems that the term virus is becoming a generic term to include all other computer security threats, although the term malware is used by many companies providing security software. Well I guess not all computer users are "technical people" so to speak.
