Ever been in an airplane crash or near-crash?

I've flown a fair amount and so far, touch wood, I've never been involved in a crash or near-crash, although my aunt lost her life in one. The recent crash in the Hudson got me thinking: What is the closest you've come to being involved in an airplane wreck? Have you ever lost anyone in an airplane crash?

Haven't even been close to being in a plane crash. I did fly through a nasty thunderstorm once with lots of turbulance. It was rather exciting. I generally wait to panic until I have a good reason.

Many years ago, I was on a flight from Holland to the U.K. When we got near to Heathrow the pilot could not get the flaps down or somehting. I think that it was the flaps. It was very scary and we were the second plane to land on foam or something like foam. This was so long ago - 40 years - I don't really remember all the details, I'm afraid.

Hi there Casual Reporter!
I am sorry to hear about what happened to your aunt. Thankfully, I haven't experienced anything in relation to a plane crash. I think the closest that I got to it was when I dream about being in a plane that crashed the other night but thankfully, even though it was just a dream, all of us got off the plane safely and it didn't explode.
