Hi everyone, are there some MyLotters who have seen the 'August Rush'. August Rush is a typical music drama. I was lost in those so amazing guitar music that I wanna play guitar myself. What's more, I dreamt to play guitar and sing songs when I was a little boy.
Pity that, even I tried to persuade myself to learn several time, but I haven't made it eventually. And now, I am also worried about that learning guitar is time and money consuming. Time is the very thing I don't have much since I've got my work everyday.
I really love playing guitar. Guys, what do you think I can do? And how long does it cost to learn playing guitar in your opinion? I am in bad need of your suggestions.
Thank you! Have a nice day!

the hardest part about playing the guitar is being able to play the chords. i learned playing the guitar online by looking at tabs and chords. so as long as i have the chords, i can play the song. probably the hardest part is being able to play certain chords either because of the different positions. anyways, try going to http://mxtabs.net for a bunch of songs.

Guitar is like everything else, the more time you put into it, the better you will be. It all depends on what you want to get out of playing the guitar. If you want to learn a few chords to play to popular songs, then all you need is 20 minutes a day for a few months and you'll be loving life. On the other hand, if you want to continue learning and growing as a guitar player, then you have to put in a lot of time for years and years.
As some others have pointed out, there are a lot of great resources here on the web to learn for free. There are tab sites (my favorite is http://www.fretplay.com, but there are a lot of great ones), there are sites where experienced teachers pass on a wealth of knowledge and know-how.
There are also benefits to having a guitar teacher. Teachers offer motivation and guidance that most people don't have within themselves. Teachers also help students avoid bad habits and pitfalls that don't seem like much in the beginning but really hold you back when you try to learn different styles and techniques.
I've been playing for 13 years now and teaching acoustic, electric and bass for 3. On my business cards and flyers it says, "when you're ready to learn to play the guitar, not just songs". What I mean by that is, when you're ready to learn what you are playing instead of just where to put your fingers and how to strum or pick the strings.
To me it's the difference between a guitarist and someone who can play songs on their guitar... in the end though, it is all about what you want to get out of playing since there are a lot of really popular musicians out there who know how to play what they play, but have no idea what they are playing... some I really like!
However you choose to do it, Keep Them Strings Singing!

if you already have the guitar, then you can learn to play guitar for free. i got an acoustic guitar for Christmas and am teaching myself how to play the guitar. i found a website that teaches you how to play the guitar for free. i practice 15 minutes a day and am already playing songs that i hear on the radio, such as "the gambler". i'm not playing as good or as fast as they do on the radio, but at least i can play better than before getting the guitar. another option for getting free lessons for guitar is to take books out of the library to teach you to play
