Here's what I got so far. Boil the cabbage till tender. Drain, add butter, pepper and lemon. There has got to be another recipe for cabbage . . . right? Don't get me wrong now, I do love my buttered cabbage but is there something else I can do with cabbage. Please, please, let me know.

I love cole slaw - just grate the cabbage and some carrots, then dress with mayonnaise thinned with a little milk, pepper, oregano and lemon.
And then there's stuffed cabbage rolls. Blanch the cabbage in boiling water and plunge in ice water to cool it so it doesn't continue cooking. Mix cooked rice with browned hamburger and stewed tomatoes (I use seasoned stewed tomatoes so I don't have to mess with the seasoning too much). Separate the cabbage into leaves. Spoon about half a cup of the rice mixture into the center of the leave, fold in the sides and roll it up. Use a wooden toothpick to secure it if necessary. Place the rolls into a casserole dish and spoon tomato sauce/stewed tomatoes over each roll. Cover with foil and bake in the oven for about 40 minutes.

This is how we (amcedonians cook it) you get meat (pork or beef) add some oil to a cooking pot and add the meat (in cubes about 4inch) or pices. Add salt pepper bay leafs. Cook until the meat is slightly brown then add some fresh or caned tomato and green peper (or capsicum) then add the cabbage shreded bit by bit untill soft add some water and let it cook for 90 min in a small frying pan put a bit of oil and add some flour (about a spoon) mih it until it goes a bit creemy and remove from heat add some paprika and pour it over the cabbage. let it cook for few more min and turn it off.

Hello gtargirl.
I love cabbage, but just plain boiled kind of looses something for me. It isn't the lowest in calories, but darn it it just tastes good.
I fry up about 4 slices of bacon and a handfull of onion in a sauce pot. Once cooked cook the bacon and crumble. Drain 1/2 the fat from the pot, then add your water and cabbage.
About when it's done, add the onion and bacon and cook through. Drain, salt and eat. Yummy. Love it. Hope you do too.

Chop it fine and stir fry it with appropriate or favorite seasonings. Steam it and add a little sugar and vinegar. Shred it and put on a salad dressing, coleslaw. Add it to vegetable soup. In German Mennonite country they call that a borscht. I like caraway seeds in cooked cabbage.

Make cabbage rolls.
You cook the cabbage leaves , until soft, not too soft.
In the mean time you bake the hamburger meat. (I don't now how you call it, cow meat but then munched up, like hamburger meat.)
You can put any kind of herbs in it you want.
I like onions and garlic.Cut small. With powdered paprika, en the same stuff you can put in your spaghetti sauce.
You take out the cabbage leaves, (not totally raw, just soft) put it in a safe.
So the water goes out.
Then when the meat is baked , you put the meat in the leave and roll it up.
When you have made these leaves with meat, you put it in an oven (oh my English!!!)
an oven (schaal) dish. Put in some butter and tomato sauce and water. lay the cabbage rolls in there and put it in the oven for approximately 20 minutes.
Finished, you have cabbage rolls.
Success

Hi Gtargirl, I just boil my cabbage and add to meat and potatoes and pour gravy over, I don't do the butter, lemon and pepper bit and what is left over off the mashed potato and cabbage I then fry up later as a dish called Bubble and Squeak and have with cold meat. I don't know of any other recipes for cabbage I am afraid but I have heard that people have cabbage soup to help with dieting. Huggles. Ellie :D

Cabbage is a great addition to just about any dish - soups, stews, casseroles, etc.
One thing that works really well (sorry if it has already been mentioned here) is cabbage roll-ups. Simply use the cabbage leaf in place of a flour or corn tortilla and fill it with your favorite cold cuts, tuna/chicken/egg salad, or some grilled chicken - anything that you would normally use in a 'wrap' style sandwich. You cut all the calories by removing the tortilla and still have a quick and easy meal.

well, that's the first time i've heard cabbage being done this way.
Anyway, i normally eat my cabbage raw with salad.
OR if i cook it with bee hoon ( a kind of noodle - asian food), i'm put it in last to fry. This being cabbage is easily cooked.

I teach people how to cook yet, it's one on one in their homes. I will try to show you this amazing Persian one dish meal with cabbage. It's lightly seasoned so as to actually taste the rice cabbage and beef. It is also steamed so consider it light. The rice should come out light and fluffy.
You need the following: 1 medium green cabbage, 3 cups of basmati long grain rice, 1 large onion white, 1 lb ground beef, salt and pepper to taste, cinnamon, olive oil, garlic powder, and water.
So to start chop onion and saute in 2Tbl olive oil. Once iridescent add beef and
season with garlic, salt, pepper, cinnamon a slight sprinkle, and mix together and break up beef cook on medium high heat for about 10 mins. then remove from pan. Add a little oil about 1Tbl and add sliced cabbage {almost like coleslaw sliced} saute when iridescent add the beef onion mixture back to pan and bring heat to low.
Now in s thick rice pot filled to the top with water (leave two inches so as not to overflow) add salt so the water tastes like the sea. Cover and bring to boil. Once boiling add the rice and stir well so as not to stick. Put timer on for eight minutes and keep stirring! Get a strainer ready. After eight minutes the rice should be half cooked strain. Put rice pot back on stove at high heat and let water evaporate. Once evaporated add some more olive oil like a teaspoon or two and add half of the rice to the pot then add the cabbage beef mixture on top and then cover mixture with rest of rice. lay a paper towel over the pot and cover with lid. Bring heat down to simmer or med low and set timer for twenty min.
To serve: Upon opening the pot be careful the pot is full steam! Fluff rice with spatula or fork which also mixes it all up and enjoy!

Wow! I'm honored with your visit, Intention. I have added this to my recipe card collection. Thanks again. I'm one who will stick with ground beef. Thor, you don't want to hear my ground turkey aversion story. Can you say morning sickness?????

That sounds wonderful! I can't wait to try it out. Thank you for posting this recipe.
I am curious if you have ever substituted ground turkey for the ground beef. Mind you, I am not opposed to beef - I love beef - but turkey tends to be a little less expensive and certainly a lot lower in saturated fat. I have had success with most dishes that call for ground beef but have used ground turkey instead. Just looking at the recipe here, it seems that turkey would be a suitable replacement.
Thanks again for this!

you can mix it with ground fork, first sute' the garlic and onions when it turned brown put the ground fork put some pepper and salt. When it's brownd and tender you can now put the cabbage but don't over cook the cabbage.

I make cabbage rolls. It's my husband's favorite meal. Here is the recipe that I have made for it. They are so incredibly good. Last time I made cabbage rolls, I chopped up the rest of the heads of cabbage (you can only use the first 8 or so leaves off of a large cabbage) and froze it. I added some to a beef stew that I made. It wasn't bad. There are a lot of possibilities for cabbage in soup.
Sweet and Sour Cabbage Rolls
Ingredients:
1 large head of cabbage or 2 medium heads of cabbage
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. pork sausage (preferably spicy)
1 medium onion, chopped
3 or 4 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 quarter Braeburn or Gala apple, peeled, cored, and chopped
2 cups cooked rice
2 15 oz. can tomato sauce
salt and pepper to taste
tony chachere's or zatarain's cajun seasoning to taste
about 1 tsp basil
about 1 tbsp parsley
1 15 oz. can sauerkraut
1 15 oz can diced tomatoes
Directions:
Peel 10 leaves from the head(s) of cabbage (you'll have a couple to combine if they fall apart). Cook 4 or 5 cabbage leaves at a time in 1 inch of salted, boiling water for 5 minutes per batch. Drain the water, let leaves cool slightly and carefully remove them from the pot. When leaves are cool enough to handle, cut out most of the thick vein in the center of each cabbage leaf. Set leaves aside. In a large pot over medium heat, break up ground beef and pork sausage. Add chopped onion, garlic, and apple. Add salt, pepper, cajun seasoning basil, and parsley. Cook mixture until meat is brown. Add rice and tomato sauce. Stir until stuffing is thoroughly mixed. Place about 1/8 of the stuffing mix onto the bottom of each cabbage leaf, overlapping the bottom ends slightly to compensate for the missing veins. Roll the stuffing into the cabbage leaves, tucking the sides of the leaf in as you roll them up. Place the cabbage leaves into a 9 x 16 glass baking dish, with the ends of the cabbage leaves tucked underneath each roll. If any stuffing mix is left over, place it into any gaps between the cabbage rolls. Pour the second can of tomato sauce over the rolls. Drain some of the liquid from the can of sauerkraut and sprinkle over cabbage rolls. Sprinkle undrained can of diced tomatoes over cabbage rolls. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. This recipe is best when cooked the day before it is to be served and kept in the refrigerator overnight. The rolls can then be reheated in the oven or microwave before serving.

Hello my friend gtargirl Ji,
We do in following ways :-
(1) Chop-off cabage in small pieces , and cut/mix with potato/raddish, wash it properly, take frying pan, put little cooking media (oil), after it is hot, either with mustered or 'Jeera' add little Turmic/Corricunder/Peeper/salt to taste and fry it. Sprinkle little water. Cook it till potato/raddish is cooked to eat. This is fried cabbage.
(2) it can be taken as raw as a subsitute for salad leaf. cabbage is good for strong bones. may god bless you and have a graet time,
