Do you support a political party?

Do you support a specific political party, or do you pick candidates on a case by case basis? I prefer to choose candidates based on what they stand for instead of blindly backing a political party. In fact, I really wish parties did not exist, although I can understand why they ultimately do.

I used to study the candidates from both parties and try to decide on the best one even though I was usually a registered Democrat. But when the Republican party dumbed it down from William Buckley to Rush Limbaugh, I became a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. Sarah Palin was the last starw. I don't pay much attention to the Republicans anymore. If, in the future, I don't like the Democratic candidate, I'll probably just not vote.

I take it on a case by case basis. Mostly because there aren't many candidates from my party for state offices or congressional seats. o this election, I supported chuck baldwin for president and for the senate race in my seat, I supported an independant, as sununu voted for t.a.a.r.p. and Shaheen, our former governor is about as nausiating a candidate as one can get. I am a contsitution party member how ever and will support the party in any election I can, they have the platform I believe america needs.

Parties are essential to the political process Once the party has a candidate, then people make which candidate the person wants to support. Some parties have a conservative and liberal fractions Democrats generally are liberal and big spenders and Republicans are conservative and small government.

I would prefer to pick candidates on case to case basis and not subscribe to any political ideology. This is because I have a composite ideology myself, and that would not be subscribed to by any single political party. But there is something called a practical consideration which forces one to choose a party for purposes of cohesiveness, of opinion and action. To this end I tolerate some aberrations of differences from my own convictions. If it were only possible for people to unite by issues decided by rationality then a set of independents to represent all shades of opinions would be the best choice for a government. But that is easier said than done. Thus in choosing a party against an independent candidate I am making a compromise.

I think we need partys because they provide checks and balances. I have been a registered Democrat and Republican for about a decade each. Now I'm a registered Independent. While I recognize a need for the party system I just can't bring myself to identify with any of the parties any more.

I'm registered with one of the parties but I don't personally know anyone who blindly follows their party these days. I'm registered as a Republican but voted for Obama...and a couple of other Democrats in the state and local races. I vote for the person because it's the person who will be in the office...not the party.
