as an ordinary PC user, would you use a Linux OS?

hi all! almost everyone worldwide knows how to operate a computer. and of course, everyone who knows how to operate a computer knows that an operating system (OS) is the most fundamental parts of a computer system. without an operating system, there would be no platform in which programs could run. it's like the equivalent of a car engine. and because consumers have different preferences and requirements, software companies have designed and released a lot of operating systems. each operating system offers a degree of reliability, functionality, security, and of course, bugs and flaws. examples of these OSes include Microsoft Windows, MacOS, BeOS, MS-DOS, PC-DOS, OS/2 and Linux. although one of the most popular OS is Microsoft Windows, this operating system has so many instabilities and security issues. not to mention that many viruses have been written for Windows operating systems. this is why other OSes, such as MacOS and Linux, are also some of the most popular OS and serves as an alternative for those who do not like Linux. almost everyone is used to running Microsoft Windows because even most offices use Microsoft Windows. but, i'm wondering... if given the chance, would you choose Linux as your home PC's operating system? many computer users swear by its better stability and less amount of viruses. in my case, i might use Linux as part of my dual-boot system, so that i can enjoy both the advantages of Windows and Linux. how about you guys? thanks and happy mylotting!

I have several computers in my household and some use windows and some Linux. Personally I prefer Linux, but my family prefer windows. The children prefer windows because they can then play their Sims Games and use Live Messenger (MSN) and although there are equivalent messenger programs on the Linux Platform, which from what I can see do the same job, they insist that they are not the same. My wife used Linux (puppy Linux) on a laptop for a while without any complaints, but when she just upgraded to a newer laptop, with windows pre installed, she wanted to keep Windows. The problem for any operating System, is that Windows has had a type of monopoly with the whole set up for so many years that people just automatically think that they need and have to have Windows. This might change over time with some newer users getting netbooks with Linux pre installed but even these mini computers are now coming with windows. Hopefully, with more and more programs, being available to use freely over the net, the so called Cloud Computing experience, people will eventually realize it doesn't matter what Operating System they have on the computer as long as they have access to the Internet and thus access to their applications.

I have kept my home machine multi boot where i have installed PclinuxOs , Redhat , Windows Xp and Freebsd. Since this is my home machine the choice of Linux distributions changes from time to time. I use them for the work/Fun i do from home and i just love them all. Take care.
