hi all! we all know that sushi and sashimi are a part of japanese cuisine. sushi involves fish (or egg/vegetables) on top or inside pressed vinegared rice. while sashimi is sliced raw seafood. because of its health benefits and unique style (eating food raw, as compared to most cuisine worldwide), japanese food such as sushi and sashimi are gaining popularity. sushi and sashimi are usually being prepared at japanese restaurants, by a professional sushi chef. but it got me curious... would an ordinary person try to make his/her own sushi and/or sashimi? i have a neighbour who usually sends my mom one or two containers full of homemade sushi and sashimi. it's not as perfect as sushi/sashimi that i see being made at restaurants, but they still taste good. but in my case, i haven't tried making sushi or sashimi on my own. i've heard that being careless when it comes to sanitation may cause trouble. but how about you guys? do you make your own sushi and sashimi? thanks and happy mylotting!

A friend gave me a beautiful book with all sorts of interesting kinds of sushi but it is a little intimidating. I have considered taking a class in preparing asian food as it's my first choice (from Indian to Japanese and Vietnamese) and I hope one day to pull off off sushi as it is probably my all-time favorite food.
