Seriously I can't do it.Even while typing by seeing the keyboard, I commit a lot of mistakes. But I have friends who never commit mistakes and even type more faster without seeing the keyboard.I just wonder while they type. I think many of us have this habit.

hi!.... mailtoramesh!.... ^_^
Its a skill. And it can be done by self thru experience, training and practices....
Learn first the basic of finger positioning.
The basic should be like this.
The two thumbs are for the space bar.
The other fingers....
The right hand fingers must be rest on A, S, D, F
On the left hand J, K, L, :
On up Shifting or for Capitals. Use the Small Finger. When in need in shifting at the left hand use the right shift. When in need in shifting at the right hand use the left shift. Or vice versa.
In tabbing use the right hand little finger.
In backspacing use the left hand little finger.
Or how about Download or installed some software for speed typing.

Your always welcome buddy mailtoramesh.... ^_^
Just make it easy. Don't rush take it slowly. Relax your hands and fingers.
Then to practice your speed and accuracy. Take on some easy group of letters in a word and make and then memorize those words, and it gain you on how your typing style is. And these will be as your leveling of your skills. Like.... First level a two letter word (like: we, on, of, so, if, is). Then three letter words (like: are, you, see, cat, dog, god). And so on.... And then by group words... Like from two group words up to a sentences.... And so on....
Enjoy!

Oh btw.... My first job after college was an encoder. And we have a typing subject in my high school.
Additional.... When typing just rest your wrist down for comfort and relaxing. Don't keep on high jumping your fingers on the keys stay it lowered always.

I can do it pretty well, but with a few errors here and there. Sometimes my hands get a little shifted and everything comes out 1 letter over :S
But I've gotten very good at it over the years, just takes practice, whether that's from writing research papers or chatting online :D

yes i can type letters without seeing the keyboard, though i am not very fast, my typing speed is about 30 words per minute... you can also learn to type without seeing the keyboard you just have to practice, you can do so by downloading typing softwares and learning in your spare time....

The best way to learn to type without peeking is to take a course and practice.
I type with all my fingers, on both hands, and I don't look at what I am typing. I don't do so well with some of the keys I never use but for the letters and numbers I do alright.
I still make mistakes but I know when I make a mistake, I just try to go too fast and my fingers rebel on me.
When I first started in computers I worked for a guy that used two fingers to type but he was just like lightening.

Fortunately for me i've been a computer major for years now and can do that no problem. People at work kinda like it because i can talk to them and look at them while i type out what i need to on the computer and not even make a mistake. It's called multi-tasking people. It's nice. If you try hard eventually your fingers memorize which keys they are really pressing and it becomes second nature. good luck.

Hi mailramesh, I can type without seeing at the keyboard because I have learned the basic, each keys should corresponds to each fingers. Your right position must always be,
Left hand index finger position at letter F and right index finger must be positioned at letter j, Your 2 thumb must be in the position above space bar. Learn to position your hands at the right key and learn the basic written by the other posters up there. If you know how to play the piano or the guitar, its easy as it is.

I've been using computers for a decade now, and before that, we have a typewriter before to do our projects. It was very hard to type that time unlike now where the keyboards are very soft and convenient. So truly, yes I can. I can type without looking at the keyboard and the lights are off. I'm typing while just looking at my monitor..

Dear friend,
I usually tpye without looking on keyboard I look on the screen or paper. But when I start speeding up my typing mistakes arises. If typeing bit slow or normal speed hardly mistakes arise. Still mostly I type without looking at keyboards.

I have to see the keyboard when I type. There are times that I can not look but I am exetremly slow. I hate typing slow. I end up getting frustrated and giving up. The funniest part is if I would just practice I would get really good at it and then not only would I be able to type without looking but it would make me faster and catch more mistakes because I could see what was on my screen while I was typing. I typed this whole thing without looking but it took me three times as long as it would have if I would have looked at the keyboard. Have a great day.

Yes i can...infact the time when i got my personal computer i spent time tying a bit in word...that helped a lot for sure...and now after so many users of using it now i am used to type without seeing the keyboard...i get around 80% accuracy without seeing the keyboard and typing...

I think, it is because you look at the keyboard you make mistakes. Try to memorize the keys and locate it without seeing the keyboard.
Did you ever notice that the keys 'f' and 'j' have a small difference? You can feel them by your touch. Rest your index fingers on those keys and try.
