Hi MyLotters--I am furious and enraged that this A-hole cop may get off without any consequences for his actions. Oscar Grant, the victim, was laying face down with one cops knee on his neck and get this myLotters, HE WAS HANDCUFFED! You be the judge, there were many on-lookers and everything that happened was captured on cell phone cameras and has been widely viewed on the net...the cop shot Grant in the back--so Grant was restraind and unarmed, although even if he had a weapon, how could he use it without the use of his hands? As can be imagined this has set off already inflamed long-running tensions in Oakland between law enforcement and many African American residents. Hundreds have taken to the streets calling for the prosecution of Mehserie, the 27 year old White cop who has been on the force for a mere two years and is responsible for Grant's death. This demonstration sprialed out of control and resulted in more thatn 100 arrests. On Wednesday more than a thousand demonstrators gathered outside Oakland City Hall to listen to preachers, community activists and others who urged a peaceful demonstration and demanded justice for Grant. Some wore "Don't Shoot" on their backs and held signs that read, "Silence the Violence"...this one was peaceful except for a small group that went on a window breaking rampage smashing windows at several businesses and about 30 cars. 18 were arrested. Mehseire's lawyer, C. Miller, expects his client will be cleared of all charges--WHAT? A former police officer seems to think that convicting a policeman of murder could prove difficult--WHY? He went on to say that there are many laws and Supreme Court cases to "discourage second guessing and hindsighting of officers actions and that juries typically view officers favorably", officers usually have a leg up in the jury box going to trial. The Oakland department says that "no officer involved in shootings since 2004 has resulted in a firing or criminal charges against the officers". So what does this say to you myLotters? I am appalled and outraged at the audacity of these authoritative figures that think that Mehserie is above the law--UGH!! (Don't get it twisted myLotters, I don't agree with any of the violent demonstrations but what it does say to me is that these violent demonstrators know that there will be no justice so they choose to act out, although it's not right, I can't say I blame them!) Thanks myLotters, let me know what you think, I'm really curious. ~G~

This is absolutely, positively indefensible! I have a feeling there won't be any justice done also so I can't blame those who have protested. I'm also not condoning violence at all but I'd say shooting an man in the back was about as violent as it gets. Let's hope this officer gets what he deserves. Annie
