As most have heard some Macy stores are closing their doors. We have one near us. They started their going out of business sale yesterday, Thursday. Well we went to that store last weekend and they had already marked a lot of things down up to 70% off. This photo is of an outfit we got our grand daughter. It cost around $15 I think with the large discount. Now on the news last night they did a story on the store closing. But they said the shelfs were fairly empty. So I am glad we went there. I also got some candy really cheap as well as my daughter got an ornament and a few others things bought as well. Have you a Macy's near you that is closing due to the economy? If so have you shopped there? Have you ever shopped at a Macy's?

I have shopped there. Usually when they have a clearance sale. They are closing stores here too. We may take a peek at what they have before they close altogether. You never know when you will find a deal. The candy would be right up my hubbys alley. Kids are always in need of clothing. Happy shopping.

it is always wise to take advantage of clearance sale, as well as, of closing sale. i have saved a lot not only on clothes but even on some items that are musts in the kitchen.
having been the beneficiary of these sale promos for quite sometime now, i always take it in as soon as i have read that notice at their doors. after all, it is i who will be saving a lot of money out of the items on sale that i purchase.

They had the tins of Peppermint Bark candy for only $4 which normally at a cheaper store would be $8. I wished I'd have bought a few as that box lasted a whole 2 days. I have a severe weakness for candy of all sorts.

oh, grandpa bob, we are living too far away from where you are. nonetheless i share the same love for closing sale as you do. whenever i see a closing out sale mark in a store, i always get in hoping that i can cut on expenses on some items we may be needing at home. these closing sale are all worth looking in. what with the sizeable cuts on all those prices.
yes, i can see the good buys that you have just had. and i agree with you that it is good that you were there early. the ones who had known about the sale at a much later time, will have to deal with the leftovers.

We shop at Target a lot. Mostly checking the end caps of the aisles. That's where the clearance items are at most times. My daughter and wife love those deals as well.

We do have a Macy's at the mall here and I am not sure if it is closing or not but I would assume it would since it is closing down a lot of their stores. I have been in it but never shopped there. After walking in and saw prices I walked out.

There's maybe 5 stores within 20 miles of me. But this one was the only one closing it's doors. It is also due to low, very low, traffic at this mall it's located in. But it was worth the trip since we were in the area at the time.
It was not planned until my daughter mentioned it was near us and closing. So we stopped in.

I do have a Macy's near me, at least one. Whether or not it's closing I don't know. I don't believe I've ever shopped there, at least not since it's been Macy's. It used to be Kauffman's, but then I guess Macy's bought them or something. I shopped there a couple times when it was Kauffman's, but now I don't really have the money to spend in a store like that. I do more of my shopping at Walmart as it's cheaper and more affordable.

Our Macy's used to be Dayton's stores until a few years back when they bought out Daytons. I had never bought from Macy's before either. And probably won't again unless there's great deals like this.

It is so horrible that all these stores are going out of business. The worst part is the amount of people who are losing there jobs. I pray this recession does not lost to much longer.

I have shopped at Macy's in the Mall of America....but other then that no....They probably did like Starbucks and over saturated the market with stores. This recession is not altogether a bad thing...it will downsize large corporations and maybe even give a chance to some smaller companies that want to expand.

I had heard about the fact that macy's was closing some stores. They are not closing any in this area. I just bought some clothes there this fall with a gift card I had from a survey site. It is a pretty good store but some of the clothes are over priced in my opinion. This is what I think.

I used to work at Macy's corporate office in Newark New jersey, when they first went bankrupt in 1992, before federated stores bought them out.
When they had their store closing sales, it was great. I would get an employee's 20% discount on top of the discounts the store was offering.

What a shame Macys is shutting down it is awful when stores like that go,especially when they have been around so long,We lost Woolworths a department store which stocked everything and has been around for a hundred years and it broke our hearts but thats the way life is these days.We have lost MFI furniture store.I think there are a few more going to disappear before this down turn finishes.

I do not think there is a Macy's near me, so I have never shopped there. I keep feeling sorry for all the people who are losing their jobs. I know you can find some terrific bargains when stores are closing.

hello webeishere,
Yes, we've been there and shopped with my family when I worked abroad for two years. It's really a good and nice store the fact that they're selling with quality with all their items. I can still remember that we're only buying there if they're on big sale.
So sad to know that some of their stores are already closing and affected by global economy problem. This means that some if not many will be laid off again.
Anyway, what you bought for your grand daughter is so cute and the price was really low. It fits her a lot.

It's sad news about Macy's closing some of their stores. I don't shop there too much because of the prices but I did enjoy going into have a look see. It's like some of the chain stores in my area. Mervyns closed down and soon Kohls is going to take the vacant store. Then Gottshalks filed chapter 11 so they will either close or down size radically. Circut City is closing all of its stores rather than pare down like they originally decided. I hate going to town because it seems like weekly I find stores that I had shopped at had closed.
I hate saying this, but it is more like a depression than a recession. I think the government is afraid to say the "D" word for fear of the connotations and implications the word brings. There are too many people that still remember the Depression years. We really need to find sources of income and ways to make our country able to provide jobs and resources again.
I'll have to check and see if we might be having our nearest Macy's closing. Also check the one up at the Stanford Mall where I cruise through when I have doctor's appointments.

Hi grandpa Bob, We have a lot of stores closing down here in the UK also but we don't have Macy's. My daughter when visiting New York last year did visit Macy's and her boyfriend treated her to some clothes and shoes. I am pleased you managed to get a lovely outfit for your grandaughter. Huggles. Ellie :D

None of them in our area is closing down. But their regular semi-annual sales have always been great. That's when I go there and shop the children's department. It's so much cheaper and good quality clothes, too. The outfit you got for your granddaughter is cute.
We didn't have Macy's closing but Dillards. Goody's is closing doors, too. Home Depot has closed down. I'm sure more will follow. While I do enjoy the bargains I can get at those closing sales, I'd rather keep the stores. The less variety and competition we have the higher the prices will be later on. Plus we have to drive further to go shopping.
I predict Best Buy will go up with their prices. After Circuit City is now closing down, they pretty much priced their main competition out of business. That will happen with other stores, too.
Stock up while you can!
