Recently a friend of mine confessed to me that he is an internet junkie addicted to online gambling. After he informed me of this, I gave him one valuable piece of advice, close every online account you have and seek the advice of gamblers anonymous. Do you know anyone who is addicted to online gambling?

I do online sports gambling but I'm not addicted to it. last year was the 1st time for me. I work at the post office and we get these booklets from this same company eat the start of every spots season. I used to do these football tickets. You pick from a minimum of 3 games all the way up to 12, and teh amoount you win determines how much money you put on your ticket. I used to play 8 games on 2 $10 tickets, which were worth $1000 a piece if they both won. I hit a few times my 1st year I played. I started out doing 1 ticket a week for $20 and 4 games. That was worth $200. $ games on a ticket is 10 points. 8 games is 100 points. So a 4 game ticket for $20 is 200.
The last few years hve been harder for the football season. Teams are getting better. And it's when you need more than one team to not only win, but to cover the point spread as well. Every week I was looking at the upcomin games for the pros and in college, and I would pick out the games that I would put money on if I were betting with a bookie. And all the games were winners. So I finaly decided to try my luck online. I don't know any bookies. The guy at my job knows one. He told me if there's anything I wany to bet just let him know and he'll put it in for me. I dod it once and lost $100 on the Denver Broncos. After that I went online because I like my privacy. I did very well and made $1000 doing a bunch of $100 bets on football and basketball. My online account was at $2000. I took $1000 out and left the rest. Lets just say my luck ran out and I was down to $400.
It does get a little addictive when you're winning. But when you are used to winnig every game, you get pissed when you start loosing and you want to get your money back. I got a little ahead of myself. I'll admit that. But now I have 2 accounts with 2 differnt online companies. I started out depositing $200 in both accounts. I started out doing my little $5 and $10 bets. I figured this time I'll start off slow and work my way up slowly. It's not about how much money I can get. It's just about winning. I've done a few $100 bets and have made out pretty nicely. I'm very stingy with my money. Notice my user name is stinge LOL. I'm one of those that when I win a few games, I don't wanna place another bet because I don't wanna loose the money I won. But that's the price of gambling.
a co worker of mine was in very deep with gambling problems a few years ago. I won $1000 on a football ticket, and he called me asking if I could help him out. I loaned him $200. he asked again when I won another ticket but I didn't give him the money the 2nd time. He paid me back of course. But hhe told me his story. He made a couple of bets and lost. So he did what most gamblers do, he tried to double his money back and kept loosing. Before he knew it he was in a hole. There's another guy at my job who owed his bookie $10,000. He used to tell me every week he bet $100 on at least 6 games every sunday during football season. I can see how it gets addictive. You see a game you like and you think that you will win every time you place a bet. Some people think they can make a living off gambling and it gets out of hand, especially when they start loosing after they've experienced winning a coulpe of times.

One of the worst things that I have found about gambling - is it is easy to get lost in moment, I would guess that most people become very depressed when they lose more than they win. Great comment on this discussion, appreciate the information.

Thanks for the best response. It does surprise me how caught up people get with gambling. Especially when it comes to loosing their homes and family over it. When I 1st started online, the football season was pretty much over, so I bet on basketball which can be very tricky because of the back to back games some teams play. I started off on a serious hot streak. I had a strategy. I only bet on the
lakers, celtics and pistons that year. I put up $100 on every game. Lets just say my 1st 20 bets, I lost maybe 4 times. So you can imagine how excited I was. I was bragging to all my friends how much money I was making in a week off basketball games. But of course my streak came to an end. This guy at my job who handled the football tickets even told me " you're hot right now". He said be carefull cause hot streaks come to an end real quick with gambling. And I learned my lesson. But I think it's crazy how people max out their credit cards and go as far as risking every thing they own over it. It's sad to think that some people look at it as a second income.

No, i don't know anyone addicted to online gambling. I like to play lots of online games, and I get really addicted to some of them. I have a problem with the possiblity of losing my money. Even when I have gone to Vegas I set myself a limit to the amount I am willing to lose. I guess if I was any good at gambling I probably would get addicted.

You summed it up right, the best way to curb becoming addicted to gambling is to set a limit and stick by it.

I am not a gambler at all. I don't mind a good game of poker with friends, but we never gamble with money - just use poker chips as a way to 'keep score'. I haven't even looked at any gambling sites online.
It is good that your friend confessed his problem to you. That is a step in the right direction...

Nope. Not addicted to it, and don't know anyone else that might be either. My wife's family likes to get together every now and again to play poker, but we only play for chips. It makes it fun for everyone since the only thing that you lose is your bragging rights!
