Do you clean your jewelry very often?

I took time for me tonight...and did a bunch of little things for myself. Like cleaning all my jewelry that I wear on a daily basis which is my pearl earrings and four rings. They all look so nice when they are done. But sometimes it gets to be a while before I get them cleaned as I don't think of doing it. Do you clean your jewelry very often? How do you do it? I soak mine then use a soft tooth brush to get all the build up off them.

Its been a while since I've cleaned mine come to think of it. Maybe I'll do it today, good idea. I only have a tiny bit of Gold, but the rest is all Sterling Silver. And as you know it tarnishes after a while. If it's really bad, I will dip it in TarnX for a second or two, then rinse it completely off. Afterwards, I just use a polishing cloth for silver. They look so pretty when they're all cleaned up. I use to work in a Native American Jewelry store and had to clean the jewelry about every couple of months. That was a job in itself as it was 95% Sterling Silver Jewelry, lol! Hundreds of rings, bracelets, necklaces, bolo ties, pins, etc., took us many days to complete the task. It was a great place to work though and I miss it.

Normally I just don't take the time to do it. But my youngest son got a high school class ring in September so he is all about keeping it shined all the time so I think to clean mine now. I let mine soak in jewelry cleaner and then use the little brush in the cleaner to loosen all the grime on it and rinse and towell dry. I don't know what I'll do when he loses interest! LOL I'll probably go back to my schedule "whenever I think of it" LOL

Hi Jill. It sounds like you take such fantastic care of all your stuff! I didn't even know that pearls could be cleaned without damaging them. So, I guess that tells you how often I clean mine LOL! I do have a jar of jewelry cleaner that has one of those plastic net-type thingies that I put certain jewelry pieces on and lower them into the solution and leave them to soak for a period of time. Then, when I lift them out of the solution, voila! Everything looks very shiny and new! But, I barely do it once a year. I think your idea of just taking time to do little things that you want to do and need to do is a great idea. My husband is gonna be gone one night next week and I need to do some things like that. Take care.

Hey jill! I don't clean mine too often because I am too lazy to take them all off! I wear 6 rings! I wear 3 on each hand and a few don't come off too easily. I wear 2 necklaces and 5 bracelets! I have a jewlery cleaner that I let them soak in and then rinse them in warm water after I brush them and then a clean them with a cloth to shine them up!

I only have my wedding band that i wear everyday.. i rarely take it off unless i'm making burger patties or something where the meat can get trapped under and around it. . I gues i wash it everytime i wash my hands, i twist the soap around under and it and wash.. I know germs tend to hide in and under rings cause some times we forget to wash them well. . so i make it a point.

I haven't actually cleaned any of my jewelry in awhile. I used to be pretty good about cleaning my engagement and wedding rings because I wanted to keep them nice and sparkly , but I haven't done it in awhile now. I used to do it almost every week. Your discussion is a good reminder to me to start cleaning them again!

Only my wedding ring set. I take it to the jeweler. They keep on file my cleaning and repair. So I get it done twice a year. It was part of the insurance my hubby bought with my set.

Hi Jill, I wear a lot of silver rings and my water has a lot of minerals that tarnish them. I should be cleaning them everyday but may every couple of weeks or more. I do have cloths that polish them up pretty good but the silver paste does the best job. leenie

Well, I clean mine about every six months if that. But if they get to bad I just take them to the jewerly store where I got them. They always tell me. Now what did we tell you about wearing your rings to work. I tell them that I love my rings and I only go to work so there. That is where I where them. Have a great day. Your friend onlydia

You're supposed to clean those? LOL. I only wear my wedding ring, I need to get it resized. I haven't taken it off for years now, but I was always told to get an old tooth brush and just us tooth paste and scrub it up. Works great and it's simple. I think I do this once a month or if we're going out or to a get together then I do it again.

Hey, I think the jewellery cleanin kits you can get where you leave your jewellery to soak work wonders. They are quite cheap and you cannot beat nice jewellery when it sparkles in the light, is very eye catching. You could always spare 5 minutes to let them soak is quite effortless really. Just doing several pieces of jewellery at once could be quite boring!

Hi Jill, I must admit it is not something I do that often either but my nan used to work in a jewellers and told me to simmer my jewellery in a pan of washing up lidquid and water for a few minutes and then buff dry with a spectacle lens cloth. It comes up a treat and any grime particles are left in the pan. Made me feel guilty now so that is another job of the things to do list for the day LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

I very seldom have to clean mine because I don't wear it that often.. I have a few special pieces that I wear only on certain occasions, so they stay in the jewelry box more often than not.. I don't wear it on an every day basis, so it really doens't get that dirty, but when I do, I usually just use toothpaste and a soft bristled toothbrush, it works perfectly..
