Why it is very hard to get direct referral?

We do search the internet to get the new stuff available and when share it with others.Everybody share it with a hope that they will get good response and people would appreciate their hard work and join under them.But unfortunately that doesn't happen. 90 % people try to avoid that referral link and prefer to join as independent not under anybody.is that a fair deal??but at the same time they expect others to join under them..so getting referral is very tough..isn't it..so what about our hard work and bringing them infront of everybody..? well that is my experience till now...might be different for others..
