I am very pissed off already. It takes several minutes to load a page. I do not know what the problem is. My anti-virus also says that there is an invalide update control ctf file. I am not familiar with those things and I am wondering if the problem is with my computer or with our internet provider. They said last night that they are doing some network updates or something to that effects. I really hate it! I cannot surf properly.

Well if you're here in the Philippines, then i guess you know how intenet service provider works here. They're pretty lousy when it comes to service. Sometimes to a point that they themselves don't know what they're doing. "We're doing updates" is a classic alibi just to keep u (wrongly)informed. Let's just hope your normal speed will be back soon.

It's a possibility because these sites may contain Spywares and Adwares which slows down the computer because it runs in the background utilizing some bandwidth.

Install Spybot Search & Destroy. It detects spywares on your computer then deletes them after scanning. You can also use TCP Optimizer to speed up a bit your internet connection. But since your regular speed is back, i suggest you keep it that way.

Well,it's ok on my end these days~Have you checked you broad band?Sometime,it will be the problem of the nextwork provider,not your pc~Furthermore,it will sometime the antivirus which protects your pc and will slow down the connection to the side.And,it is what you mentioned,maybe the maintance of the website you want to access. Good luck~~

I suppose the anti-virus software will be updating when the internet available and thus the downloading job will be launched automatic(my antivirus is doing this) which will seize on part of broadband.What do you think?

Hey! I belive you have AVG. It's not a problem with your internet, it's a problem with AVG. I believe the CTF files hold the information about the release date of your virus definition..when they get corrupt AVG will tell you about the Control CTF file error..it cannot "read" the information no more and therefore it cannot determine if you have the latest update & you get the error message. I have posted about this before, but you can go to this website..and the person describes how to exactly fix the problem: http://drmikessteakdinner.com/2008/10/22/how-to-solve-invalid-update-control-ctf-file-errors-on-avg/ Cheers! Yes, this happens to me also. Some times it get so slow that it almost takes forever to load a single page. Sometimes it is due to some hardware somewhere in the network and sometimes it is due to software problems like virus or browser problems.

Yes I agree with you. This happens when a large number of people re accessing a limited bandwidth network.

I think it is with our network providers. There are really some instances that our connections go slow especially when there are alot of users.

The reason why your net is slow maybe due to network provider problem...but did you try after clearing browser cache and cookies.. And for you anti-virus problem...same thing has happened to me twice before..no idea what causes it but it will be fine once you uninstall and reinstall it.

Hi Minfas! I already found the solution regarding the invalid update control ctf file. I don't know if solving that problem made my connection better. Well, the solution that I found was to remove the ctf temporary files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg8\update\download. After I did that, I updated my AVG anti-virus and it worked.

Your slow connection could have been because of your internet service provider try checking your speed at speedtest.net and if it is fine, you probably need to delete some files and cookies. That's is what I did and it worked!

haha, yeah. I am having troubles the past few days also with my internet connection. I understand how you feel especially if your life revolves around the computer or the internet world (world wide web). I was pissed also especially if the problem arises during weekdays since I have work to do and my work involves downloading and uploading. Imagine how long it will take me. and just now, your profile page is not loading properly. haha! Okay, I checked up on you. I thought we're on the same planet. And guess what? We're both from the same country. maybe the internet here in our country is having problems, don't you think? What's your internet provider by the way? I'm sorry if I didn't read the past comments. ^^ We're using PLDT, 3mbps (supposedly).

Hello Babyfuzz! I am not using PLDT. I use globe broadband, 1mpbs. They say that those providers are just the same. They suck most of the time. Anyway, it is better now and I hope that I would not experience that situation again. See you around Kabayan!

I always find the network in my place is very slow, especially at the night and on the weekends. I think maybe many people are using the net at that time, and the rush makes me can not enjoy the net. So if I really have to use the net, I will ry to use it during the day time, so that I can make posts here, find what I need .
@maroseqf (3657)

I think that is one of the reasons why network providers have updates - to accommodate all their users especially when they are online at the same time.

I think because of network updates you are facing the speed problem.For me the net is disconnected the whole day when an update is going on.It feels boring when the net is slow.I experience it sometimes.Don't worry after the update the speed will be normal again.

I've been experiencing problems with my internet as well. I know how irritating it is. Another problem is whenever you call technical support they are mostly in a hurry to finish the call right away without regard to the caller. Probably concerned about their handling time. I hope your internet gets fixed soon and mine likewise.
@maroseqf (3657)

OH really? Well, I have not experienced a technical support trying to finish the call rightaway. I am even the one who is in a hurry because I want to go back to my online activities already.

We had to call our internet company the other day because our internet and cable wasn't working. The company told us they were doing some changes to get ready for the transfer over to digital so that is why we were having problems. Do you have cable modem? If you don't then I don't know what your problem could be unless it is all link with the whole digital thing. Hope you can get your problem fixed!

Try using your computer the normal ways without internet application and if still same problem maybe check online using microsoft online scanner to eliminate any possible malware that causing your computer to a half effect. most malware or virus even up to date antivirus sometimes cant be detected. http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm All in one application that run an online scan of your computer for virus, cleans your drive for unnecessary clutter and tuneup your computer for better performance. thats the last option and the best way to eliminate and refresh your system.

A slow internet connection affects your PC's performance whenever you surf the web. If your PC is slow even when doing things offline, most probably you have to clean your PC. Delete excess files, folders or programs and run your antivirus program. Otherwise, check your internet speed using this online bandwidth tester at www.speedtest.net. Record your speed, compare it with your subscribed speed. If the discrepancy is such, report it to your ISP.
