Why has online dating become so popular?

I think it has become popular because people over the age of 30 don't want to be out in the dating 'scene'. They can 'shop' for a new partner at so many sites now. And there are some success stories from people meeting online. Mine was a success for almost 4 years. Would I do it again, probably not. I think I'll stick to the old tried and true way of meeting in person.
