Why do insurance companies require the signature of the home mortgage company?

A couple of weeks before Chistmas we had to file an insurance claim to get work done on our bathroom because our commode had worn out, started leaking and caused water damage. With it being right at Christmas I waited about calling the contractor. Well, I finally got the contractor out and they started working but could only go so far because I was having to wait on the insurance check. My husband and I had signed it but it also required the signature of the company we make our house payments to. I sent the check to the company by overnight mail delivery but it took them a week to put it back in the mail to us!!! This held up work on my bathroom because we couldn't pay the people working until we got the check back. We spent a week having to go to my mother's to take our showers until they were finally able yesterday to get the shower in and running. Thankfully my mother only lives a mile from use so we didn't have that far to go. It sure is nice to have a shower at home again LOL!! They still have work to do to finish the remodeling but hopefully they will be finished by Monday or Tuesday.
God Bless!!

Isn't that something. I wonder sometimes what's up with stuff like that it never used to take that long before we had things like computers, fax machines and fancy phones. Makes you seriously wonder if everyone is doing their job???
Then I get a bright light bulb moment and think, "Sure but at one time we went to the outhouse to do the paper work and the bath took place in the kitchen in a big tub. Oh My!!! Putting all jokes aside I am grateful for what I have and I know you are too. Hopes and prayers your house will be back to normal by Tuesday or so, so Wilber can relax.

Wishing you many happy showers in your remodeled bathroom. It is annoying to have to go somewhere else to get your grooming and cleaning done. I am glad it was only about a mile.

I am very thankful, that is for sure. I'm thankful that we have insurance also because so many people don't have that privilege right now. They sure can be aggravating sometimes though. Take care!

I have never heard of that!! Maybe it is just so they know it is being done or something. I am glad your mother lives close!! I am sure you will like your new bathroom when it is totally done.

Hi! I had never heard of it before either until we had this situation occur. We had had to files claims before a few years ago but we didn't have this to deal with. Apparently this is a new thing that has just started occurring. We will definitely be glad when they get everything finished. Thanks!!

I would suppose the mortgage holder has to sign because they still own an interest in the house. Therefore they stand to benefit from any repair or improvement. I suppose it is to guarantee that the money is used as it is intended to be used.

It is funny you mentioned that, because the letter they sent with the check after they endorsed it said something to the affect "Remember the check is to be used to restore your house to the condition it was." But that irritated me too, because they treat you like kids that don't know your responsibility. It just all hit me wrong when we had to wait so long and then they act like we are going to take the money and go blow it on something else. Thanks for responding hon.

What a pain! I guess it at least makes you thankful for when your shower does work! Insurance, any insurance company seem to take pride in driving a person nuts. Home insurance, health insurance, auto insurance, they all seem to feel better when we ourselves are going nuts.

I so agree with you Amber!! We have just changed medical insurance companies from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to a company through my husband's union because it is cheaper and the benefits are just as good. Blue Cross had just told us that since Amanda turned 22 they would no longer cover her. I had been fixing to do battle with them since she is still a full time student but then we changed to this new insurance. I thought that they would cover her but my husband contacted them and, even though she is a full time student, they still will not cover her either since she is 22. AAGGHH!!!

Yes it is. They sit there in their desks taking their time to get something done while their customers have to wait forever about getting work done. The companies don't care about the inconveniences customers go through as long as they get their money. Thanks hon!!

I am not sure but I think it has something to do with proving you own the house....also they sometimes only give you half until the work is done to make sure that is what the check is going for....that happened to a friend of mine....she got half to start the work and the other half when it was finished!

Bless her heart!! That was even worse than our situation!! These insurance companies drive me crazy with all their rules and regulations. They think we have all the time in the world to get things done I reckon LOL!!
Thanks for responding hon!!

Hi SheliaLee,
I can't understand those people those company making you wait for your check, we are waiting for our check as well here and have to wait a few more weeks, and yet if you owe anyone any money you have to pay at once, not really fair.

You are so right Tamara and if you are one day late they either threaten to cancel your policy or tack a high fee on to the payment but they are snails about getting things back to the customer. If they weren't necessary I wouldn't even want to have insurance. Thanks for responding hon.
