It's just so exciting watching from my tv all the hoopla surrounding the upcoming inauguration for President Elect Obama. The world is watching and even more so we Americans are actually focusing on whats really going on in our own country and events as they unfold. It gives me chills to watch history(a different kind of history) if you know what I mean, that is going on here. There are certain current of events that has happened such e.g. Martin Luther King Day is Jan. 20, NAACP will celebrate 100 yrs and so much more and I am blessed to witness this wonderful event.

Although I did not vote for him and I am cautiously awaiting to see what he can do as our new President, it feels like a big wedding celebration to me, like when Princess Diana got married. I wish him the best. I hope he does not increase my taxes and he can get some semblance of order back to our economy. I don't feel he is the be all, end all savior, though.

You're right, thats sorta what it feels like, I just didn't know how to express it. I did voted for him and I keep him in my prayers. I don't expect him to live up to everyone's expectations-but to do what is right for this country since he will be representing this nation. I just hope that the obstacles that he will be facing, he'll be able to overcome them and the Obama team will support him and not backstab him. Only time will tell. Thanks for your reply

Let me ask a sincere question: Are you saying that you're this excited because he's a brown-skinned man?

Did I say that or is that how you read into it? Not at all, mostly saying we actually are witnessing big shift change in our Nations leadership, I view him as a minority who just happens to be of African descent(per Mr.Obama). Have you ever experience something like this in your life time, he's no savior by no means in my eyes and I sure hope that he's not another "good ole boy" or turn off as one. Old politics out the door and the old ways of thinking- I view it more like 6-degrees of separation from the historical past and current events surrounding whats happening right now in our Nation and the incoming 44th President Elect Obama who just happen to be of African Descent. That's all and NO ONE can steal my Joy I'm feeling right now. Hope that clarity things for you.(no pun intended)

Hello Yparsons, Six degrees of separation from the historical past, yet the original post references only history ("a different kind of history if you know what I mean") as it relates to the NAACP and MLK, Jr. Day -- how interesting. When we can all see all people as people, and not black, white, or "minority" then we can all share in that "Joy" that you've referenced. In the meantime, it would seem that racism is alive and well.

Hello Ery1500, I agree with your point: Anyone who got all giddy over the prospect of Hillary running BECAUSE she is female, as opposed to the most qualified candidate is just as guilty of 'narrow vision' as someone whose gotten all giddy over Barack Obama being the first Black or minority president-elect. There's nothing at all admiral about narrow-vision or narrow mindedness. When I read the plethora of references about "Barack Obama, the first black president", I cannot help but think about one of our greatest teachers on the subject of color-blindness -- the grand bigot "Archie Bunker". Imagine how America would react to Archie Bunker, or a real person living today, had lauded John McCain, or any other candidate because his or her skin color was white. If it's wrong to focus on someone's white skin, then it's just as wrong to focus on someone's brown, red, or yellow skin. While I'm sure that some people will take great offense at these words, deep down they will recognize them as true. Black Americans cannot condemn White Americans for an inappropriate focus on skin color, then turn around and do the very same thing without being called out for it. Judging a person based on the "content of their character" is a two way street.

Mr. Obama may not equal to be compared with Mr. Martin Luther King. He is also one among other presidents. HOwever, he got elected when USA is facing tuff financial position. I wish he will be a successful President learns from the mistakes his previous presidents did.
