One day last week my mom and I were in the kitchen making dinner when there was a knock on our door. My mom answered, and there was a man outside saying that he was one of our neighbors. He explained that he had locked his keys in his car, and he'd called a company to unlock his car for him. The problem is they needed him to pay $26 to unlock his car and his wallet was locked in his car too. So he was asking to borrow the money to have his car unlocked. My mom told the guy she didn't have any cash, but she'd ask her husband. Then she went and got my dad.
My dad came to the door and spoke with the man. He claimed he lived two doors down and pointed in one direction and gave his house number. That's when my dad became suspicious, because the direction he pointed was the opposite direction of the house number he gave. Also, my dad knows the people who live two doors down in both directions, and this guy was not any of them. My dad also offered to unlock his car for him, and he gave a bunch of excuses about his car was at work, he borrowed a friend's car, etc. My dad also suggested he call the auto club who will come unlock his car for free. And the guy gave some excuses about how his friend is an auto club member, but he isn't, so the club won't unlock his car for him. The more my dad talked to this guy, the more suspicious he became. Nothing this guy said was adding up. And whenever my dad would ask him a question about the neighborhood, he wouldn't know it or would give the wrong answer. Finally my dad just told him he didn't have any cash on him, but he'd be glad to come out and help him unlock his car. And with that the guy left.
My mom was surprised by the whole incident. She said she expects people like that at gas stations and the like, but not at her own house in the middle of the day!
Has anyone ever tried to scam you? Have you ever had strangers knocking on your door asking for money, claiming to be your neighbor? I'm just curious how common scams like this are! You should definitely be aware, and be suspicious of anyone you don't know asking for money. It's also a good safety precaution to get to know all of your neighbors! That way if someone claims to be your neighbor, you'll know right away if they really are or not!

hi there...
it is really a good and funny incident you faced...funny in the sense that the guy tried many tricks to get money but he failed ,just like a movie type...this type of incident never happened with me but i remember a similar incident.i was alone at home and my family was on a dinner.i was watching TV then i heard some noise outside my room..when i looked through door hole i saw a man was standing outside holding a knife...i was too scared and i call police and my parents...then police reached there in 5 minutes and i feel relaxed after this.that was a terrible day for me...
happy lotting.....
