When we first retired, I kept some of my "work" shoes, just in case, you know, but then I bought some "retired" shoes, and they are so comfortable and I am so happy in them that after a couple years, I three ALL of the work shoes out, especially the high-heeled "dressy" ones.
So now I only have 3 pairs except for one pair of cloth sandals that I carry in my suitcase and use as slippers for the hotel rooms. At home I go barefoot. One pair stays at our summer home and I have another identical pair that stays at our winter home. The third pair is what I wear on road trips, and they are similar but in a darker color. They are all Columbia River Sandals, like this, only mine are in prettier colors:

When I was younger and before I had the children it was always style over comfort!
Nowadays I always go for comfort first! I probably have about ten pairs of shoes, but only really wear my trainers these days as they are comfortable and practical when running around with young children!

Same here although I have no children. When I was younger I ALWAYS would choose style over comfort and pay for it in the end. Those brand new pair of spiffy looking shoes I got became a form a torture after walking all through the school with them. Now I most definitely go for comfort first but I don't throw style completely out of the equation though.

I too get so swayed over style. But all the walking in the campus has somehow brought my senses back and now I give importance to comfort. With small children it is even necessary.

I don't have that many pairs of shoes. My sister always did growing up, but I really didn't feel the need. I have shoes that are six years old and still look new. They haven't gone out of fashion, so I keep them. My sister on the other hand is lucky to have hers last a year. She just loves shoes. My most important factor is comfort, but I won't buy shoes if they are ugly. I'll just wait until I find something affordable, comfy, and the style I want.

In all cases the breakdown goes like this. Price, comfort, style. If the price isn't what I can afford then forget it. It the price is good, but they hurt my feet it ain't happening, and if the price is good, they fit my feet, but they are ugly to me, they stay in the store. Yes, all are important, but this is the system I look for shoes in. Price first, comfort second, then style.

Hi daffodil! I only buy footwear that is comfortable! It has
to of course be something that I like and be stylish too!
But, I am long past the days that I will by something that is
not going to be comfortable! And as for how many pairs of
shoes and boots and sandals I have, there are just way too
many to count!

I would have to go with comfort. I'm not a big shoes fanatic, but this goes into any other type of clothing as well. I think that I'm the type of person that doesn't really care about what "looks good", but instead thinks, "If it doesn't bother me, I'm fine with it". xD I don't think I could ever be forced into wearing something uncomfortable just for the sake of style. =P

Very wise indeed. I think thats the way to go about its purchase. Yes, its a different matter if you have many pairs and if you are buying for special occasion or evening outfit. Thanks for your very nice and practical response.

if i can have the both..style and comfort are essentials in buying my footwears. i have an experience before when i bought pair of shoes wherein i bought one because i just like the style but when i started using it at home i noticed that it won't give me comfort. i am not using it anymore because it will just hurt my toes that is why from now on i should by shoes that are in style and at the same time it gives proper comfort to make your money worth it.

I have shoes for office, which are never comfortable. Whenever possible, I wear leisure shoes, for which I have to find the best possible balance between confort, look, and cost. These shoes are mostly more expensive than office shoes. Once I find a good brand, I will stick to it for some time until pulled away by another, either for comfort, or for function. Footwear is very important for health.
