ok i've been on mylot for awhile now, i enjoy it alot because give me a chance to get idea how to deal with things, and well maybe help someone else out. but sometime it's just for the fun of it and stuff.
but i have notice when i either start a discussion up or respone to one. sometime my spelling isn't all that great. now i do have a few reasons why my spell isn't get.
i did grow up with a learn disablty, and i do have brain damage that effice my memory and my spelling. and i'm often on here ealry in the morning half asleep.
but i just responed to a discussion about people correct your articals,
so my thing is if you see someone mis spell a word or two. how do you tell them, are you pollite enough and just say hey sorry but you spelled it wrong, it should be this way.
or you a jerk and what make fun of people who mis spell word.
i notice i've been told both ways, to me if you cool about it then i am down with it, but you are trying to bust my a$$, then you are a jerk. i know some might have reasons, or rushing to get some done, or they aren't from my country and have trouble with words.
how do you tell people either on here or off here they mis spell words?

i don't reckon anyone had been chosen to be the official word checker. i think it's rude to say anything to anybody about their spelling. we all make mistakes, bet they do to. just ignore the silly things.

I usually dont correct anyones spelling on here. I am not the proof-reader. I am not always the best at my spelling either. Not because I am uncapable, but just because I just go with the flow of my response sometimes. I also read in the guidlines that we are not supposed to correct someone on spelling. It can be viewed as rude in ones eyes no matter what if they dont ask for your input.

The plain and simple fact syankee is that we all make spelling mistakes from time to time. In some cases it is because we do not know how to spell the word or it could be a simple typo but the fact remains that the word is spelt wrongly. In general I think that as long as people can understand what you are trying to say it does not worry them.
Of course there will always be one or two people who will make a big deal of incorrect typing and others might point the mistake out nicely but generally I do not think it worries most people. However if there was a spellcheck on myLot then that might be different and I think that a lot of people would use it. But with no spellchecker, it is not an issue at all.
Personaly I do not bother to tell someone how they should spell a word and would not do so unless I was specifically asked of course. I can spell and am usually fairly good too but my typing lets me down quite often and so it might look as though I cannot spell. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

I don't bother about spelling mistakes. i am from india, where english is not the speaking language, but we do learn english from schools and speak when we are away from our home state (there are lot of states in india, and around 18 different languages spoken around these regions.) so its difficult to maintain proper grammar or spelling. i joined mylot just to improve my english language.
i think now i can convey my ideas to the one who reads my messages. i am still learning.
By the way, howz my english? if you are from an english speaking country, you can grade my language.

well sometimes it's fun to poke fun of how others spell or pronounce words. When I do it it's not me being rude though it's all for a good laugh. ANyway I've never really corrected anyone's grammar online unless the person is asking for help. I just wouldn't care enough to. I mean, I don't know you, so what's the point of educating you? Anyway your english is okay. if others poke fun at you for it then stand tall and don't be affected. :) Be open to learning, my friend.

There's really no good way to tell someone he spelled something incorrectly. You run the risk of sounding pretentious and condescending. Your best bet is just to ignore the error. This is the internet, after all. You can't expect everyone to have the patience to make sure his sentences are constructed properly or his words spelled correctly.

Personally since we have a lot of members here from all over the World, and for many English might not be their first language, I have never been one to notice most of the time if something here is mispelled. What bothers me is when someone who has been a member here for a while goes around criticizing others, and finding fault when in reality it should not be their place to judge here as well.

I usually don't say anything because I don't want to appear rude or offend anyone. I have noticed some mispelling in your posts but it really doesn't matter to me, I can make out what you are trying to say. I've also seen others from other countries who cannot spell our words or use the wrong ones entirely. Unless someone specifically asks for help with their grammar I'm not about to point it out to them. I have suggested automatic spell check on here, but apparently the mylot gods haven't been paying attention. LOL But then I'm not perfect either. Yesterday after I posted a response to someone I realized I had TOTALLY mispelled a word. I wasn't even close. LOL

Nice topic friend. I was the one mylotters who always have wrong spelling and most of grammar are incorrect due to my poor knowledge in English. And not only that reason, its because I was too busy doing things outside and I cannot always practice my English so it may result bad but I tried a lot to improve this. How can I tell to others that they have wrong spelling too, I will not tell her /him I know they have their own reason why. As long as they are understood by us it was fine and okay with me.

Syankee don't worry about a thing, you just carry on ,everybody makes mistakes and normally everyone can figure it out and if they cannot they should politely ask you what you meant.I often come across dis jointed writing and I just take a bit longer to answer it but honestly none of us are perfect, have you thought the more you do it,you will improve I can think of worse things than not being able to spell to well. They are a good lot on here and now we know we will make allowances but what ever happens don't stop posting for goodness sake,we look forward to your input.xxxxxxxxxx

I'm not a very good speller and I hit letters sometimes by mistake. What I notice is that some people from other countries do not have a good grasp of english grammer and I have to take a little time to understand what it is they are talking about. I feel that this community is very tollerant when it comes to this. I do not tell someone that makes alot of spelling mistakes. I try to read the discussion and if it is to difficult I stop reading any of that persons discussions but I do not say anything. Personally I try to proof read my stuff but some times I am in a hurry and don't do it. I just hope for the best.

Normally when people misspell words it bugs me, but I don't make a big deal out of it, and most of the time I don't bother to correct them, because I know that my spelling isn't perfect either, so I shouldn't ridicule others for their spelling mistakes. If I do correct them however, I'd just add it in like a side note, and usually say "Oh, by the way, so-and-so is supposed to be spelled like this" or something.
