It depends on the birthday. My daughter likes homemade cakes so I always make hers. My youngest child is still in to theme cakes, so I usually get his at Sam's club. My other child does not care either way so I let time and finances decide for me weather to make his or not. Occasionally I will bake a cake for others as well. I prefer making cakes to buying them. I can make what ever flavor I want, and it is a 10 times cheaper. Last year I made cup cakes for our Super Bowl party.

I still make my own cakes from scratch. Not that I don't like the store bought, just I think they taste better and I can get more creative with them. The store bought ones always cost so much too, and homemade is always cheaper in the long run. I usually make everybody in the families birthday cakes, wedding cakes, etc. This year my one grandson will be 6, and he's already put in an order for a cake shaped like a train lol. My daughter asked me to help her learn how to do decorating, so for valentines day we're going to make petit fours and make them into those little conversation hearts (like the candy ones.) Should be fun :-)

Yes I still bake cakes, as I am a cook in a retirement home, and I bake there all the time, and I try not to make the same old thing all the time.

Normally I bake my own cakes. I have only ever bought a few cakes before. This past weekend though I did buy a cake for my son's 9th birthday. He was really excited about it. I bought him a Wall-E cake. I normally don't bother buying the cakes because my kids don't really like cake that much. Making them at home is cheaper.

Hello, for me I make my children cakes because that way they look they way you want them to look. But I do always buy my children first birthday cake.
Because to me when they turn 1 that is the most special day because that day is the day that they will start exploring and become themselves. But other then that we make the birthday cakes unless other wise which means if my in-laws decide to buy a cake then we don't make one. But other then I choose to make the cakes because I love baking.
