I have just received an email from PayPal announcing I have won $1000.000. thing is they also want my nationality, age, gender, and of course bank details, all I have to do is email this to them then they will sort it out via their end...personally I think it is a scam...but would like to hear your views on it too and has anyone else received an email like this from PayPal? Sorry, didn't see this until today. I'll guarantee it's a scam!!!
Paypal has a link on their site under...i believe it is Security...where they ask you to report any emails like this. They try & track down the culprit & put them out of business. Plus they'll respond to you verifying it's a scam & thanking you for your help in busting the azzholes!!! Think...they already have your bank details so wouldn't be asking for that!!! They know your age & gender so wouldn't be asking for that. NEVER log into your PayPal account from an email telling you that your account will be closed if you don't log in right away. PayPal doesn't send emails asking for information. If they need something from you, they give you a message when you log into your account so they know it is you. If you logged into your account from that email, I strongly suggest you change your password immediately!!!

Hi LadyM I agree with you and have looked at PayPal and their security warning when I reported the email to them they did thank me but as I didn't mark it as safe in my inbox and reported it as phishing scam hopefully I won't get another one..but as you said guess I had better change my password asap..I didn't think of that thanks for the advice...hugs littleowl

Don't know what email proggy you use. I use Outlook & have the option to create rules. I have my PayPal set up to go directly into its own folder. If the email doesn't go into the PayPal folder, I know it's probably not from the official PayPal. The scammers use a different email addy every time. It's always close to the PayPal addy with just a slight misspelling. I like that PayPal has warnings on their website letting us know what the latest scam is & helping us get around it safely. I've been impressed with their proactive stance!!!

Wow that is a new one for the Paypal Scam
Paypal will never ask for anything like that of you and they will always state that
Forward it to spoof@paypal.com as they will investigate it and they will let you know if it was from them which I doubt very much indeed
Hugs to you

You are welcome
Send it to them though because Paypal will trace it and put a stop to it that is why they prefer it if People forwarded Mail like that as they can sort it before to many People get spammed
I know it is awful as some People do fall for it

I work on the principle that if they do not address me by me name then it is a scam for sure. If I enter a contest or competition, then I would give me name so they know how to address me. Now if they cannot use that, then there is an excellent chance they do nto know me. Also I would put in my country as well so why do they need to ask that one because they already have that information.
When it comes to paypal, they already have your name as well as your address and country plus possibly your phone number. If you have verified your paypal account, then they will already have bank details for you too.
If you think about it, why would paypal want your bank details anywa. If you genuinely won something from them, after they advised you of the win, they would simply deposit the money into your panpal account. Then you are the one who decides what you want done with your money. No doubt a win of that amount would be wonderful but this one sounds too good to be true unfortunately.
Reply but send it to spoof@paypal.com which is what they tell us to do here in Australia.

Yes it is a shame that you did not actually win this money as I am sure it would have been a nice little windfall. However as you were alert, at lest you did not lose any money from any of your accounts and that is probably more important than missing out on a "windfall".

Hi roni'...it was a surprise to me too as it read that it was a reward for being such a loyal customer!! Wish it had been true but have had so many scammers sending me this type of mail when I looked properly the email was from a person calledLoreni Fracasso Foresti, but it did look real, anyway have reported it to spoof@paypal.com and they thanked me for sending it to them and are now tracking the scammer down so if you do get it report it too to that email address...hugs littleowl

Did the e-mail start by using your name? If not, then yes it is a scam. But, it could have your name in the opening and still be a scam. E-mail PayPal, and ask them if this is legit. I would, however, go to their website by typing in paypal.com, not through a link of something.

That's a definite scam. I've belonged to Paypal for quite a long time and they just don't have contests of winning money. The mere fact that this email asked for your bank details should send warning signals to you since the legitimate Paypal already has your bank details. Avoid it...you could report the email to Paypal's scam email section

Immediately forward this to spoof@payal.com. They will reply very quickly and tell you whether or not it's real .......and I assure you it's NOT, and will thank you for sending it. They have a way of tracking down the originator of phoney emails and really welcome people alerting them to scams using their name.

Hi there Little Owl. I am sick and tired of the people trying to scam us in so many different forms. I have received 3 emails i think from people trying to find out my paypal account data through various methods - like i won who knows what, or my account was limited, or other stuff like that. I think these people should just get a job and leave the rest of us in peace.

Hi elitess, I couldn't agree with you more thing is though these scammers get a lot of money when people do fall for their ploys as then the people concerned lose their credentials and get in big trouble ans these scammers can get into bank acounts and take thier money....its an never ending battle, (sigh) littleowl

Thanks for posting this littleowl, this caution me to be responsive enough not to give personal details easily, its a scary thing to do when one day, what you have hard earnings would be collected by someone whom you even dont even know. The tactics are good and very inviting knowing that we wanted something for good, but turns out it would be bad or worst. Good for you to have acted immediately and rightfully done the best move. Thanks for posting this ! Hugs, torch.

Hi torch, I did think that people should be aware that this email is going round..it seems authentic but the thing that gives it away that it isn't is because it hasn't got PayPal's logo at the top and it is from some foreign man...am really thankful for all the advice everyone has given me too.as for this email I have reported it to PayPal and they are trying to track it down to stop it...littleowl

Hey littleowl! You are wise to be skeptical! Why would
PayPal ask you for all that information? They should already
have that stuff! There are just too many scamers out there
posing as real sites and it is getting to be so scary! You
just don't know who to trust anymore! You would think that
you should be able to trust something that comes from a
site that is offical like PayPal. Did it look like it was
officially from PayPal? Did it have their logo and look like
it would really be from them? What made you be skeptical?
You just can't be too sure of anyone offering you money
these days! Good for you to not believe or trust this
email!

It is actually very easy for scammers to copy wholesale the text of messages, Paypal logo and even the entire format of webpages to make the page they send someone to look so authentic, so ignorant people can be taken in easily. But there are some telltale signs one can watch out for. One is that usually legitimate companies may not reach out to customers that way, and asking for confidential information just like that. Another is the address of the webpage they bring you to. Usually they don't have the domain of the legitimate website, so at best they can only disguise the address to come as close to the actual website address, but if you look carefully there will still be some differences. Also the email address of the one who send you the email is usually suspect and won't look exactly like it is from Paypal. One more thing to watch out for is the website address. Legitimate sites will always bring you to a secured page, the one that starts with https:// and has a lock shown. Scam sites are usually not secured (i.e. starts with http:// and not https://). If we are mindful of these differences, we can watch out for them and avoid being scammed. Also if you are unsure if that email actually came from Paypal, you can always forward it to them and ask them first before responding, or check the internet and forums to see if there are discussions about them being scams, because many other people would probably have received the same email.

Hi Opal! thanks for your kind words..you are so right about all these scammers they come in all guises, when I first looked at it there was a name at the top Loreni Fracasso Foresti, that was whom it was from posing as PayPal's representative bringing me the good news I had one a million dollars in some reward thing they were giving out...it did seem rather official but there was no PayPal logo heading it and I realised it is a scam so thought to bring it to everyone's attention. It is amazing what names etc they are now using to try and scam people....hugs littleowl

Yes I have received these and others such as my Pay Pal account is locked for to many denied tries. Well If I had a Pay Pal account I would understand these but I don't, but what gives them away is they want all this information, and if you already have an account they would already know all the information. If you go to www.paypal.com they will direct you to the scam section. What ever you do do not give them any information.

Hi Littleowl! I haven't received that one yet but looks like we're both lucky girls, I got notified Saturday that I won the National Lottery. $10 million dollars! Funny but we don't have a National Lottery and I didn't even buy a ticket for the state lottery, imagine that. And just a couple of weeks ago 2 separate members of the Nigerian Royal Family wrote to me personally and offered me 1/2 of their family fortunes if I'd just give them my bank account number. Strangely enough for members of a Royal family, their grammar and spelling was atrocious! I have no doubt that eventually I'll get the same PayPal notification sometime in the future. I really hope that people still aren't falling for those scams.. It's getting very old.

I have gotten a lot of messages telling me that I've won a million or so dollars or pounds.
What they usually want is for you to spend money on something else like the courier who is supposed to send you the cheque or the lawyer who is supposed to facilitate everything.
Its all a scam.
If you won money all they need is a confirmed address to send it to you.
Besides, who on earth pays a million or even one dollar unless you've bought a ticket or entered a competition in the first place ?
Its the wise old world of scamming.
Only too many people think - it might be true and then I could have a million dollars !
