Just Bought A New iPhone, Only Now I'm Wondering If I Was Given A Refurbished

Hi, Just bought a new iPhone. Worked fine with a few snags, but I am the world's worst when it comes to any new technology. At any rate, when I started to set up iTunes acct., as directed, to my great surprise on this "brand new iPhone" that had supposedly never been used before I bought it new, there was already an account set up on iTunes, only with someone else's account name on it. I returned to the AT&T local store and asked what the heck was going on. "Oh, the rep just updated a customer before you and forgot to click out of her account when he downloaded your contacts to your account, it's happened before," they told me. "Just sync your iPhone with your own iTunes account and all will be well." I did, and that did work. That old account disappeared and was replaced by my account on iTunes. Then I downloaded the ebay app and lo and behold, until I had signed in with my own account info, there again was a totally different user's name on there (different than the strange user account I mean that was originally on iTunes). I went back to AT&T and showed them this. "Oh, that's easily corrected," yet another rep said. "You just sign in to your ebay account and it will clear all this up. If it's used that information won't go away, but it will. We don't have any refurbished phones here, you couldn't have picked up a used phone here (I did see the original rep open the sealed package when I bought this phone, but couldn't you repackage a refurbished phone just like a new phone?) Keep in mind I'm a total novice when it comes to stuff like this, so, not even thinking, like a nut I did as he instructed and signed into my own ebay account then and there. Yes, the odd account user i.d. that was on the ebay app did go away, along with any and all evidence then and there that this might be a refurbished phone instead of the new one I paid for. Still, it works fine except for some bugs in voice mail and the wi-fi network. I have wireless linksystem in my home that requires a password. Yet, when I type in my password to turn on the wi-fi that's as far as I can go. The instructions say to put in password (it does show the locked symbol so I know they do require the password) and "tap join." Only nothing happens. Although the wireless system works fine in my home. More and more I'm thinking that these people sold me a refurbished phone and charged me for a new one. I bought it last Thursday, but by now I've eliminated, not even thinking about it at the time, all the old strange user i.d accounts that were on the phone when I got it home. So I no longer have the evidence I showed them to indicate it might be refurbished instead of a new iPhone. Anybody know if there is any way to track this iPhone to see whether or not it is actually new or is, indeed, a refurbished one? I can't seem to get any help from my AT&T office. They don't seem to think they need to give me another one, they refuse to do this, and they're not really any help, they just keep telling me they don't have refurbished phones at their place of business so I couldn't have picked up a refurbished phone there. They keep insisting they sold me a new phone. Maybe they did, but I'd like to be sure. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give here.
