Oh no I’ve got mylot burnout, do you get this?

Do you get to a stage where you find you are answering lots of discussions about the same topic. They are all written by different people and all phrased differently but the question they are asking is the same as so many others have asked before them.
I keep seeing the same topics come up time and again. Do you ever find that you get tired of answering the same questions over and over again? Maybe I just need a break from mylot as I have been very active for the last 6 months.
Do you ever get mylot burnout?

I have not been on here long enough to get true burnout, though I could see it happening at some point. I am sure I am one of those people who basically have the same topics. When I search, if I find any at all, they will be simular, old and have few responses. I think when I get to that point, I might try looking into adding more interests, or creating some one here. As more and more people come here, I would hope that the discussion topics will become more varied.

Oh this site is great for chatting but I have been spending all day here and getting nothing else done which is not good. I have been trying to find things to respond to instead of just checking in occasionally and seeing interesting discussions.
So I have decided to cut back on my time here and get other things done.

I understand. There was a couple of sites I felt like I was spending too much time on awhile back. I wondered if I could atleast get paid for some of the idle chat I was getting involved in. Somehow, I stumbled along this place. It has taken time from other sites, and in general has made it easier for me to do other things. I was preoccuppied with people on those sites, people I thought more of as friends. As I was not talking to many of them much anymore for varied reasons, I guess this place has helped make up that gap of needing people of varied interests to talk to while my parnter is away.

Oh, yeah. And I have only been here for about 7 months. There are times I just go through lists and lists and more lists, and there is really nothing I want to participate in, not even the silliness that I am more prone to get into here. I walk away for a day, maybe two. But, I really miss the group of people, and one or two in particular, if I miss a couple of days. I have to come back.

Yes we both feel like that at the moment. I have to keep checking as part of my routine or I will forget about mylot. Routine does not make me remember but it helps sometimes.
Also I like to read the conversations between my friends even if I cannot join in. It always feels strange commenting after you are all gone but the time problem cannot be helped. I like the friends I have found here and I would be sad if I lost them. You all help to brighten up my life.

Oh I am not going away just cutting back the time I have been spending here. I am focusing more on friends than on making posts etc. He is just taking some time off and will be back next month.
Both of us are short on social outlets and mylot is a good one. I can enjoy just talking to friends but he needs more intellectual stimulation. Still he has made some good friends here but he gets upset when no one replies to his discussions. Part of the problem is that his do not seem to be emailed to anyone and they tend to be clever and long so a lot of people miss them or avoid them. I always check his profile to see what he has been up to
It is quite odd that no one, including me, ever gets an email of his discussions. I cannot figure out why and it is hard if people rely on email notifications.

I know, it sounds kind of silly to think that we become attached to people we don't even really know. But, there are some people who just connect, regardless of geography.
I saw Lash's response the other day about losing interest in the place. And, I guess from his stand point, I can understand that. Intellectual stimulation here is kind of sparse, but for me that is ok. I come here to get away from the more serious things in my life. I would miss everyone terribly if I could not come on line and have a little fun.
And, I would miss seeing you around, too.*S*

Well, I think we all have days where we do not feel like posting on here, and somedays it just seems like there is nothing New to post back to in here as well. But in reality it is up to you. You can take a break from time to time for sure. Just remember to come back here as time permits as overall, even when I have taken a break a time or two, for me this continues to be one of the Best places to be.

Quite right. The trouble with taking time off for me is that if I lose the routine of checking the site I will forget to come back unless I leave myself written notes to remind.
I think I may still check but lessen the time I spend here so that I am doing other things and giving myself time away from the computer.

I can say that I've experienced this on one or two occasions, at least. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but at times, it just feels that there are too many discussion on one specific subject matter. And I can say that at times, it gets annoying. After awhile, I'm not even sure what to write, because I've already responded to a similar discussion, and I don't want to write the same thing, or something like that. I've been there at least once or twice, so I know exactly what you mean.

Yes that is how I feel. It is a topic that I feel strongly about and so I find it hard to avoid answering but at the same time I end up repeating myself and getting annoyed about it.
There are a number of topic areas that people keep asking the same question and I cannot help wondering why. Are they just trying to make money or do they really want an answer. I doubt that any of them search to see if the topic has been done recently or not.

Yes I am taking some time away but not a whole month. I have started limiting my time here to about an hour a day where I was spending all day here and doing nothing but mylotting.
I am not sure I could take a whole month off. If I did there are two problems. One I might forget the site as my memory is not so good and two I would get out of the routine of checking it. Routine is one of my important memory tools. Funny really as I used to hate routine but now I find that I can use it to help me remember.

This place is still VERY new to me - considering I only joined in the beginning of February, but I do see some parallels between questions. Especially ones about the economy, about "money-making", and so on. :/ I don't mind answering questions about the same things - I'm totally an insomniac anyway, and I always find a different way to approach the same questions.

Yes I stay away from the making money questions and I find that the two areas of religion and politics are very much an area of fighting so I have not been back there for ages.
I check friends discussions but I am not posting any of mine this month but I may do so next month. It is very hot here at the moment and I my brain does not work all that well in the heat so I find it hard to think. I will start cooling down a bit next month and I might feel better.
I am also a bit insomniac but I was neglecting other things and now I am trying to regulate my time better so my other tasks do not get neglected.

I get this too sometimes sharra and had it really bad a few months back.
I ended up creating my own interest category and went off on my own path! Yes it can be repetitive on here, but there are always little gems to be found if you step outside of your normal routines and look around a bit. If all the above is of no interest, maybe a break WILL be just the ticket. Try not to disappear for too long though!

I won't disappear but I will not be spending all my day on mylot any more. As I said to Irish I have been using mylot as my only social outlet, well apart from shopping, and I have been spending too much time here so I am going to try and change that.
I do not post that much but I do spend too much time surfing it looking for something and getting frustrated. So I will simply limit my time and find other things to do.

Recently I have acutally had to force myself to leave mylot and do other things. I will hang around reading discussions and losing time and then I find that things are not happening. I have neglected other things so now I am limiting my time here and if I get only one discussion done then fine.

Ah now that is an idea. I have been doing this solid every day for the last 6 months. Maybe I should take a day of every week and that might solve my problem.
The thing is that I get my emails every morning and answer them and then go hunting for new discussions. Maybe I should just take a day or two off every now and then and do something completely different.

I hate to say this but the mylot community is so large that yep we are going to come across the same question but in different angles or prospectives. It's our choice wether we keep answering it. But to tell you the truth there was a point where I was very active and then I just pettered out with a burn out and then life happened so I have had more than enough time away. But burn out happens to all of us. Mine came and went and then life happened and I have just gotten back. LOL!!

That is true but the TOS also tells us that we should search the discussions first to see if the topic has been done so we do not duplicate another discussion. I doubt that anyone actually uses the search engine as I have seen the same topic appear quite close to each other.
I am also aware that I can avoid answering but there are some topics that just stir me to answer. They are just the sort I find hard to ignore. These are the ones that bother me the most as I find myself repeating what I have said to others in response to this topic.

Hi sharra! Yes I do sometimes get tired of answering the same
questions over and over. But, those are the types of questions
that are simple and not given much thought! And sometimes
I just delete them! I get annoyed with those simple questions
that don't have any substance like "What do you eat for
breakfast" and those type of questions that are asked over
and over. I don't even know why they are allowed. And I do
feel sometimes like I am burnt out. In fact, I wasn't in
the mood yesterday or today to come here, but then I just
couldn't stay away so here I am! There is just something that
always brings me here no matter how I feel!

Oh yes I find those simple ones pointless. I stay away from those. I think if I did not have so many interesting friends here I might have quit but I still check in to see what people are writing and see if I can answer.
I am just spending less time here, not quitting. I will see how things go. I was spending all my time here and getting frustrated as there was other stuff that was not getting done.

yes i have got a stage of more discussions on same topic. but in a cool manner ,i have answered all of them.
u should not get burnout. u give less answers or avoid that topics which u have got more times. in this way u will not get bore and can feel cool.
after sometime or some days , u can answer that topic which u are feeling bored now.
if u want to take rest ,u can take rest at how many days u want. but u can earn more ,when u answer more. so think of it and take rest if u want.

I am still checking friends discussions and responding to the ones I started but I am not spending any where near as much time as I was and I am actually logging out for a change instead of just minimising the window.
So I am just reducing my time here to a short time each day instead of spending the entire day and getting nothing else done.

although i am a new member,i met this kind of situation too.when you answered a question, there are similar discussions popping up.maybe you can choose from your interests or today's top (there are boxes in the front of the webpage)to choose the topics you are interested in.then you can avoid answering the same question again and again.

I know I can avoid it but some questions stir me to answer them, especially in the relationship area. I get cross with myself as I seem to feel compelled to answer and offer my advice. Or I see a topic that makes me want to voice my views even though I have done it before.
I find those sort of discussions quite frequent but hard to ignore.

Its against the rules to use the same reply for more than one topic. I do not even like doing that when replying to replies on my discussions which is one reason why it takes me so long to reply to everyone. I can only reply to a couple every day as I need to refresh my thoughts.
But I do try and get to everyone. I get really annoyed by people who post discussions but never reply to anyone.

I have experienced this many times when I go on responding and answering to my responders I reach a stage where I run out of steam. My ideas have dwindled to dust and I can barely string two words together. So rather than inflict some esoteric nonsense here, I take off and refresh and rejuvenate. When I come back after a few days my ideas tend to accumulate and eager to start all over again.

Well I have been feeling like that for a while and now have decided to just keep an eye on this site and not spend so much time here. So I will check in of a morning and then leave it.
I will also probably take the odd day off but I will do other things and not spend so much time here that nothing else gets done.

I dont really 'burnout' but i get bored yes.
The same subjects seem to come up over and over again.
I'll agree it gets boring but because i dont spend ALL my time on here (not saying you do...) As you can see i've been a member for 2 years, one of which i hardly posted at all.. so...
If someones already said exactly what i would say then... i dont see the point in repeating.

Hmmmm yes bored is a good description but there are times when I feel that I do not want to be here and yet I come here because I am responding to emails and then its like I get stuck looking for something to respond to since I am here.
The last couple of days I have just done a couple of posts and then gone off to do other things. At least now I am getting other things done.

I think I got obsessed with it for a while as it has been my only social outlet apart from shopping. It is a real problem being disabled and not being able to go out much or being able to afford to go out much.

Though I am not working here for too many months, but I have faced the same thing more than once.I usually skip the likely topics.I don't prefer to answer the same topic time and again.
I have a suggestion to those ,just try to choose a topic which is lively as well as current also.

There are times when it can get boring, especially if you are actually posting just to try and reach a monetary total. When I first joined I had trouble getting into the site and I would go months without even looking.
That changed 6 months ago when I started to find good friends and I was having so much fun that I started to spend too much time here and in the end I was spending all my time here when I should have been doing other things.
It was like an addiction but I think it is under control again and now I am balancing my time better.

Hello sharra1! I noticed it too. I mean, all the discussions are keep coming back because I think some of the new members doesn't know that someone made the discussion already. I also have the same experienced about it. I made a discussion and then I found out someone made a discussion about it already but how would I know? I am just a new member and I don't know how to know whether someone started about the discussion or not.
I am tired answering the same discussions sometimes but I can't blame them.

You can do a search of discussions to see of the topic has been done before. Having said that I do not have to answer the topic but sometimes I see someone asking a question and I want to answer it so I do.
But after answering the same or similar questions a few times I get sick of it. I think it is just that I am tired and need a break for a while. Or maybe I am spending too much time here.
