Do You Listen To Your Body?

I had planned to blitz the house today from top to bottom but after taking the dog out, doing the school run and a few other essential things my energy level seems low so instead of getting stuck in I am pottering instead doing bits of paperwork, myLotting even watching a bit of TV. Tomorrow is another day and I will do in far less time once enrgy level is up again. Do you do what I do or force yourself to do what you had planned even if you don't feel up to it? If I attempted to today it will just take me twice as long so don't see the point. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi dearwell if things in plans are not important then sure i listen to my body and postpone it for another day, but if its important and have some deadline, then i just focus on work, not on body demands
i believe in rest after task is done
take care

Hi ellie,
I am very fair to my body! LOL! I listen and feel for it and when I am not in the mood of doing anything, I will take a break by taking a nap, or by walking and relax my eyes with different views!
I have tried forcing myself to do things when I was working and trying to meet deadline and it was not healthy!

I always do. if my body doesn’t support me dear, nobody will…no hubby, no kiddo. I always have to keep in mind that I am the primary care-giver in this family so it is of utmost importance that I stay fit and well. For that, if the house looks a bit dirty or dusty on certain days, then so be it. I’ll spruce it up when I have less work on other fronts. I never overdo with my body.

My dishwasher isn't working so I'm having to hand wash dishes
well, I did a big load Saturday (dryed them in the dishwasher) and then after we unloaded it I tried to keep up with them on Sunday, until I ran out of room in the dishwasher
told the roomie i'll do more today when the dishwasher is again unloaded
meanwhile, yesterday, I attacked and dusted the fan blades, and points up from the floor, knocking down dust and cat fur from the lights, ceiling beams, fan, even some on the cabinates and then cleaned the vent hood
I've also covered the range so the cat's can't do quite as much bad stuff on it and have been keeping up keeping it clean
I'm trying, but I ain't no "haus frau"

Hi ellie. When I was younger I had to push myself to get anything at all done, because I rarely had the energy to do even all the necessary things. Then I'd get an energy spurt and I'd do all the little extras in one day and I'd be practically useless for a couple of days.
In my old age, I've learned to slow down and do what is absolutely necessary, but not push. I've gotten paranoid about doing too much because now it scares me really bad to be so tired and have so little energy that I just want to lay on the couch and sleep. I know it's the same as when I was young, I've overdone it the day before, but where I used to just take it in stride, I notice it more now.

Hi Thebeaddoodler, I guess that is the reason why I feel wiped out today as I was on the go all day yesterday and paying today I guess. I have just had a snooze on the sofa and woke up thinking I was late waking my son up for school and then realised it was the afternoon LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

It depends on what needs done and how badly. I hate doing laundry and its usually the job that needs done the most. I'll procrastinate, but eventually I get off my butt and start. Once I start I usually get in the mood for whatever chore that needs done. But there is usually things I continue to put off.

Hi Earthsong, Oh I procrastinate over the bed changing as I always managed to get tangled up putting the duvets covers on LOL but do do it, this was more I really didn't have the energy to begin with so just didn't bother. I even had a snooze after lunch on the sofa, have just done dinner and have a couple of uniforms to iron and thats me done for today. Huggles. Ellie D:

Sometimes you just need to take a day off....it will all still be there tomorrow and you are better off trying to get caught up on your rest. You are right..it would probably take you twice as long to do it. When I feel that way I only do the essentials....or do like you....maybe just do some stamping or scrapping.

I know what you mean, Ellie. Some days you feel full of energy and really want to tackle things - other days you wake up and just want to do nothing. I feel energised today - but haven't started the list of things I'm supposed to be doing. Maybe if I wait long enough, the urge will pass ...

Hi Guybrush, Glad to hear that you are high energy today, I was tired all week in fact but went with it and got stuck in on Saturday morning when I felt more energetic, no point in struggling and taking twice as long with something, still forced myself to go to work and worked hard there but at hone I just relaxed. I force myself to do chores even if I don't feel like because some jobs I will never be in the mood for!

Because of my illness, I have no choice, I have to relax, I have no energy ever and always in pain, especially in the wintertime. I would love to have a whole lot of energy and just do what I need to do to have a more productive life.

I try to listen to my body. I have learned the hard way in the past and ended up very sick. Pretty much the only time I will push on through even when my body is saying to stop is when someone else is counting on me to get something done. Else, my body wins out everytime. It is much wiser than I am.

Hi Makingpots, I have been tired all week and have been listening and resting and reading a book rather than do anything too strenous, I have still gone into work but not pushed myself more than that. I agree our bodies are wiser than we are LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

yes i definitely listen to my body. if it says it's too tired, i'll just relax and pick up a book or watch some tv. it's not good to strain no matter what chores needs to be done. to strain a tired body can lead to not-so-good consequences. mild ones include lethargy, strained muscles that takes days to heal. serious ones include reduced immunity or worse, falling sick. our body knows what's best and always try to tell us. it's up to us to listen or not. cheers

I do what you do. We need time to rest and relax too. Its just as important. I've been planning to rearrange my bedroom for the last 2 monhs now. Other things seem more important. Like keeping the area clean where people see when they come to visit. Sometimes visitors come with kids and they make quite a mess. My 3 cats make a mess too. They pull their toys out and cant pick they up. Sometimes it feels like i still have kids at home. Hopefully i get the bedroom arranged this weekend. Im pretty much caught up in the rest of the house.

Funny I should respond to this discussion today, I had to listen to my body today, as my stomach started growling. It was really interesting to listen to it as it had not being growing, since I started eating breakfast early in the morning, well guess what, yeah that's right, you guessed it. I didn't eat anything for breakfast today, so I had the unpleasant experience of listening to my body fuss at me.
I do listen to my body in regards to fatigue. I know when I need to sit down and rest or when I have more than enough energy to do all the things that I have planned for that day or week. I never listened to my body as a child though, always wanted to keep going and run and play. I think the listening came when I got older.

While aging by, I am more and more aware of my physical status, and get to be very sensible about whatever is wrong. I will take care not to overburden myself in terms of work, eating, play, etc. According, more rest, lighter food, and more water usually help me to pass over. If not, some pills of medicine will do. On rare occasion will I really go to the hospital.
People, old or young, need to develp their healthy quality, which is the last but not the least quality for a happy life. The other four are IQ, EQ, FQ and AQ, as is often talked about.
