I seldom face a computer crash since I upgraded to Windows XP SP3. The only problem is the program that I run sometimes crash. But I guess its not the operating system fault but the program itself has a bug. Probably windows has a problem with the driver that installed on your computer. Windows XP is quite stable but not as stable as my Linux system.

Ya i didn't use to face crashes when i used the WinXP media center. Later i had to reinstall the Windows cuz a virus wont let me start the Windows. LAter i used Windows XP pro and my problems started. And i have updated my Windows and office to sp3 but the problem exists. I think i have to change some hardware.

windows crashing mostly depends on how clean you keep the system. also, windows has not been designed to be kept up and running for a long time like for instance unix. crashes happen a lot when installing and removing applications all the time without backing up the registry before the installation. this causes residual registry entries accumulating in the system which may interfere with other applications. if you keep the system neat and tidy, you will see a decrease in crashes.

games usually make the system instable as well (when i was gaming a lot, i had considerably more system crashes).

If you really are taking good care of your computer and still having crashes you'll need to diagnose the actual problem. When does it crash? Is it when playing a game, listening to music, browsing the internet, etc.? The most common hardware to cause these problems is RAM. Have you run a memtest? I's try running just one stick of RAM and see if the problems continue. If they do, remove it and try just the other stick of RAM. If your crashing happens a lot when gaming then you may have issues with your video card, or with the drivers for that card. Nvidia and ATI have both been known to put out buggy drivers from time to time. You may also want to check your temperatures. Overheating is a common cause of crashes. What kind of processor do you use? Some of the older ones are more prone to overheating than modern processors.

I have no crashes with windows XP my computer rarely crashes when i use some hard core programs or when i use some CD's that have more scraches. When i try to play games with heavy graphics. At some incidents when my computer is completely affected by virus it often crashes.

How is it that Windows is crashing? Do you mean the Internet freezes or your computer itself shuts down? I have many problems with the Internet "crashing" but not with Windows, I have a virus and spy ware program and a registry cleaner/optimizer, this seems to help a lot.

the windows crashes into a blue screen. and i have to restart the computer. i use a TuneUP utilities so i don't think its a software or junk files. i think its a hardware problem. I am going to have it checked.

As a matter of fact, The windows system also calls for professional users. At the very beginning when I used Windows XP, I also hated that the windows crashed so ofter that I couldn't even put up with it. And later, I realized that the windows system would accumulate rubbilshes itself which is the very cause of crashing. The solution goes without saying, to clear up your computer regularly just as you clean up your apartment regularly. For now, my OS hasn't been reinstalled for over half and a year. It is still cute. You see.
