"Making a Petticoat (Pettiskirt) - Anyone Know The Best Way to Make One For Under a Twirl Skrirt?"I made one for under my daughter's twirl skirt. But, I wasn't entirely thrilled w/the way mine came out. Does anyone know the best way to make one (for under a skirt). I know some, (like on eBay), make them as the "main" skirt. I want to make it for fullness under the skirt. Any suggestions?

I hope you don't mind a couple of questions. First, how did you cut it out? Did you use a rectangle or did you cut it out in a circle? What fabric did you use? Did you use any netting? I design clothing for bears and myself, and one of the things I make is "twirl" skirts. One of them was on a prize winning bear for the fair two years ago. I cut the petticoat out in a circle and then used several layers of net between two layers of fabric so that it would be full and showy. For a small child, it would be much better to do this kind of sandwich so that there isn't any scratchiness. It will give the fullness you want. Tulle won't give the fullness as it is a lighter weight netting, but you can use it too if you want a softer look. Hope I've helped a bit. Happy sewing

Hi! Thanks a lot for responding. I have used rectangles. I've never thought of using a circle. Neat idea, and I could see why it'd work. I only used a cotton fabric, maybe muslin (sp?). And, I see what you mean about the fabric, and getting the "look" w/o scratchiness. Thanks for your advice.

I almost forgot to add that you don't use a whole circle. You need to cut a small amount out, other wise you would end up with a little girl that looks like a lamp shade! You're going to want to try it on her and then take some off the bottom layer then when you add the netting you add a bit and then on the top piece of fabric you would add just a touch more than the bottom layer of fabric so that it doesn't come up over her head. I would measure the whole thing against the skirt that she is wearing in the picture. You add the amount of net in accordance to how much twirl you want. What size is the little girl? I may be able to do some calculations and give you an idea of how much circle you need. I love sewing and especially love challenges and this is one for me. I need to get ready for my BF, we take a thirty minute evening ride around our home complex... Any information about the sizing will be appreciated.
