Reading is fun way to learn something new! Something you will never learn from weekly magazines. It's been some 6 months since I haven't read any book. Could you suggest me some good one?

Reading is indeed a fun way to learn something! I enjoy reading 'alternate history' or 'swashbuckler' type fiction, which is built around historical backgrounds and fact including historical figures...but with a twist. I've just finished reading The Dracula Dossier by James Reese. It centers around the life of Abraham Stoker (Bram Stoker), the author of Dracula (hence the name), and the time period of Jack the Riper. Included in the story are a lot of the contemporary theatrical and literary figures of that time period, and has sent me running to Wikipedia several times to look up some of the people and other information presented in the book. It's a great story, written in the form of the journal kept by Bram during that time. Check it out, you might enjoy it.

Hiya, Catdla. This book sounds interesting. I read some years ago "The year of Dracula", by Kim Newman, which also describes that era and includes figures of that time. Have you read it? I liked it so much because it has also a twist -it all starts with this idea, "Van Helsing couldn't kill Dracula and now tyhe Count is married to Queen Victoria. So half England are vampires, including real people, like Oscar Wilde, and imaginary ones, like Jack the Ripper. :) Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look for The Dracula Dossier :)

That does sound very interesting, catdla1. I kind of enjoy things written in the form of a journal like that.

That sounds like a fascinating book....just the type I enjoy reading (at the moment). Checking our library, it is the same as Anno-Dracula by the same author? I can't find "The Year of Dracula", but the write up for this one looks similar. Maybe the name was changed for whatever reason?

The last book that I read all the way through was a book called "Night" by A. Alvarez. It was about dreaming and other activities like sleep and stuff that you do during the night. The book I'm currently reading though is much better and it's called "Neuromancer" by William Gibson and I would have to say that it's one of the most entertaining books I've read in a while.

I finished a book yesterday. It's called Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh, third book in her Psy/Changeling series. It's a scifi romance, set in the future, where the world is occupied by humans, changelings (animal shifters) and Psy (beings with powerful mental powers and suppressed emotions) It's a love story between exiled Psy assassin Judd Lauren and werewolf changeling Brenna Kinkaid. It's a beautiful story, and I love this series.

I read last month Orlando, by Virginia Woolf. I'd say it is a very good book -except of the last 10 pages. But that was maybe because of the translation, I don't know :) (I read it in spanish, I'm sure it's way better in english!)

The last book I read was Pride and Prejudice, and I would definitely recommend it. I'm currently working on A Wizard of Earthsea.

Reading is a fun way to learn something new, I completely agree, Lindery. Last book I finished (though I have several started at the moment) was Here Today Gone to Maui by Carol Snow. It is not one that I would tell others is a must read, but I enjoyed it. At the time I was on the beach in Maui reading it and thought the idea of that was just fun, and it very much was. I am also reading Songs Without Words by Ann Packer. I am only half way through and have a few other books I am reading that have me distracted right now. But even just halfway through it I believe I would recommend it.

I have several books going at a time. It usually depends on how awake I am at night or what seems to interest me most. I am trying to read classic novels, and Great Expectations is my current pick because it's Charles Dickens. I also hope to read all of the Jane Austen novels, too. My huge collection of books currently holds mostly picture book and adolescent novels. Recently, in the past three years, I have decided that I need something more adult related to read. I love to read the Bible as well, either at home or in church. I prefer the New Testament, but enjoy the prophetic books of the Old Testament. Also, Gregory Macguire has written the third book of the Wicked series, A Lion Among Men. First, I need to and have started reading Son of a Witch, the second book of the series. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite novels, and when the Wicked series began, I knew I had to read it. I hope this helps. Another place to find some answers are on the ALA (American Library Association) website. It may contain kid's novels, but they are as serious and life-changing as any great novel. Seek out the Newberry Award Winners, and you are sure to find a new world of characters, adventures, and situations. Good luck on your search.
