Dear Filipino mylotters and to others who have visited and learned much about the Philippines, I really long to travel and explore the whole country. I want to learn more about the regional/provincial cultures, see historical sites, visit the tourist and unexploited scenic spots, witness celebrations and just to hang-out and listen to different people's stories. I don't know when can I start this journey but I am on the planning stage. Please help me finish my plan by providing information as to places to visit in each province or municipality, cultural celebrations worth witnessing, persons or group of people to talk with and how to get to these areas. I'll very much appreciate it if we will discuss places and events that are not that popular but which are interesting. Also, it will be of much help if you can include a low-budget transportation expenses estimate (I will be back-packing and riding the cheapest transportation available). Feel free to add me as a friend and message me privately if there are things you want to share in confidentiality. Much thanks for sharing!

Hello eich, If you like to travel many parts of the Philippines the cheapest or affordable way, let me suggest you this, Since you are in Manila, why not start by going to bicol particularly in Legaspi City where you can view and enjoy the scenery of Mayon Volcano and I Think, You will be spending P500 up to the place,(fare) from there go to Pilar sorsogon by bus ,about 180 pesos and you can take ferry boat for Samar Leyte, for another 600 pesos to tacloban bus 200 Down to Cebu, where you can enjoy another beautiful scneries and see also the beautiful ladies with real beauty. From Cebu, You can take a perry boat to Tagbilaran, and parts of bohol and also see the Chocolate Hills of the Proud boholanos.Back to cebu, You can ride another perry boat 4 hours from Cebu to Iligan City. From Iligan you can go by bus Pagadian City, Cagayan de oro,Bukidnon, down to Zamboanga del Norte particularly Dipolog City where you can take your rest in Dakak beach.(It is like Boracay.)From Dipolog, You can again ride by bus down to Ipil, Part of Zamboanga Del Sur, Down Zamboanga City where you can enjoy another beautiful Beach with Pink sand (Sta Cruz Island.) Or if you still want to explore most part of Mindanao, from Pagadian City your can go to Marvel, small town, to Koronadal, down to,Polloc, Cotabato City, still by bus to Davao City,as far as Tagum Davao and you will reall enjoy if you do it by Bus. In Davao There is also Perry direct to manila or if you choose Zamboanga City, from there you can jst ride a boat to Ilo-Ilo City,RoxasCity, Bacolod, or you still may want to go as far as Dumaquete from here.Or go back to Cebu,Samar, To Manila Again. (if you still want to explore other neighboring cities, you still can by bus. I hope I am giving you some Ideas and not making it complicated.Hehehe. I made this trip before and it was a little bit cheaper compare to by boat or plane. hehe Hey, Ike, if you are in zamboanga and you still want more, go to Jolo, down to siasi, then Boangao, down to Sitangkai, from there you can have 2 perry hours to borneo. hehe. From Sitankai, you can ride another Perry to Cagayan de Tawi tawi, then to Mindoro, back to Manila. Haha.

Hmmm.... I have to look at the map while reading your suggested tour plan. That's a good route to take actually and I'll just have to refine it so I can cover as many municipalities and avoid back-track trips as much as possible. Most probably, southernmost league of my trip will be the Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Siasi-Bongao-Sitangkai trip. I may have to jump over to Sipaddan (Malayasia) then to go to Turtle Islands. If there's a trip from Turtle Island to Cagayan de Sulu then to Balabac Island in Palawan, it will be a great return trip to take.

Hello ike, yes, there is a trip by Kumpit from turtle Island to Cagayan the sulu, down to Palawan back to Luzon.hehe But try to stay a little bit of your time at turtle island and enjoy the turtle's egg eating. You may not like the egg if you are not yet accustom in eating, but tasty and nutricious as you use to take. But don't bring with you egg back on trip, turtles will run after you. Hehehe.

The turtles need not to worry about me, they have delicious eggs but I support the conservation of their kind. Hehehe. Anyway, if the sea will not be that rough, then I will start my trip back from the south via Turtle Island - Cagayan de Sulu - Palawan - Mindoro. Otherwise, it will be Cagayan de Sulu back to Bongao - Zamboanga and other parts of Mindanao.

Hello eichs1! Well, I really don't know how to start. So it seems that you're interested in travelling to the Philippines. I will only give you a suggestion here about a place that you said not popular and cheap. You can go to Lingig, Surigao del Sur, search about it if you like. All the sights that you will see there are natural and has not been touched by modernization. The foods are cheap especially seafoods. You can buy squid, crabs, shrimps and other at a very reasonable price. There are beaches which is a lot cheaper. You can have a cottage for 100 pesos or 2 dollars. You can go there through riding a bus for only 280 pesos or 6 dollars. Well if you want to know more, just search on the internet. I think you can find a lot of information about the place.

The bus ride is from Bislig to Lingig or direct from Tandag? I will most likely to visit Lingig if I'm in Surigao Del Sur especially if it can lead me to Davao Oriental. Are there trips from Lingig going to the nearest town of Davao Oriental? My map shows me that there are no roads connecting Lingig to Davao but I could take boats or even hike if it is possible. Are you from that place? Can you also share some specific places to visit there?

I am from the USA, but have quite a few friends, or have met people from the Phillipines and I think it would be a wonderful country to tour thru, and see some of the different customs, and eat the foods, etc. I really Love listening to people talk in Tagala and eat some of the wonderful Phillapino dishes cooked by so many, so I think I would enjoy visiting there for sure.

Do come and visit the Philippines. You will love not just the people and the foods but the beautiful places as well. Ask your Filipino friends in the US for tips when you are set to visit our country. Well, you can also message me and I am most willing to share any information that will make your stay here more memorable.

There are many places to go in here. Even I a local resident of my country is not able to travel places that much as I cannot afford to right now. But then it would be helpful for you to look at this website. www.wowphilippines.com this site is the Government site that features the best tourist spots to visit nationwide. I guess from there you can start learning the place and also learn how to get to your desired destinations too.

Yes, the trip will be costly and I really have to work hard to be able to do the trip. That's also the reason I will be taking the economized transportation costs. I already visited the DOT official website and it only shows the popular and I may say "exploited" destinations. They are good destinations but they are just a part of the adventure I would like to take. There are lots of places the Philippines can offer for those who want to see natural beauty and real life of Filipinos.

Wow!!! Very good island pics in the website. I love how the website presented the place (except for the Bikini Girls on head board). I have heard about Caramaon from my former office mate but I can't imagine that the site looks this good.

Hello Eichs1, As a fan of the Philippines myself, I and some friends of mine visited the Beautiful Island of Busuanga which now has a new airport and is one of the undiscovered areas of the Philippines. There is much investment and the developement of the area is high on the governments agenda. We host and sponsor the Annual Coron Water Carnival. I am one of the sponsors my . http://www.wins4u.com We now as a group of friends of the Philippines have set up ownership of a complex cosisting of 12 cottages and a seafront lodge with unspoilt views over the bay or the local town Coron. You can see me and our friends in many of the videos hosted on the website along with views of our trips. You can view the resort and the cottages plus many of the places to visit while in Coron here at the website. http://www.seafront-resort.com If you wished to book my cottage for a stay then go to "Yates cottage" no 24 and book from there or check availability. I hope you achieve your desire to see and visit many wonderfull places in and around the philippines. I am visiting Manila and Corn with my wife in March 2009 . Best Regards Phil.United Kingdom.

that was really a nice goal and plan to do. i also wished to do the same before and luckily i was able to get the chance to see philippines quite well last year. i began with the nearest provinces here in manila like pampanga, laguna, of course cavite, batangas, antipolo and dagupan city in pangasinan. then before the year ends i was able to go to zamboanga, cagayan de oro, cebu and davao. and i had to admit that it was really a fun and enjoying adventure. it was the most memorable experiences i'll ever have. but im sorry i cannot advise you the cheapest way to travel around the philippines. i was only given the chance to travel because of my company. we have branches at those provinces i have mentioned and i was assigned to visit them last year. so all the expenses were carried by my company and i did not know how much it really costs. that's also why i am not sure if i'll have the second chance again this year. haha. i know its really quite expensive. but anyway i hope you get your chance sooner and get all the information you need. happy mylotting!

How I wish I can tour around the country with sponsors. LOL! Or maybe your company needs another guy to visit its branches. I'm available. The internet helped me a lot in charting my trip. However, there are other details which I believe only those from these areas can provide. I hope they will posts helpful information here.

I really loved that place. - I really loved that place. It is an amazing place to be there.
I was able to visit several places in Luzon, way back in high school, by attending press conferences (nyehehe, those were the days; I really thought I'd end up as a journalist.) and other extra-curricular activities. I've been to some places in the Visayas region - hey, I was born in Antique!!! My dad brought my mom to Antique in time for my birth, but we moved back to Manila when I was about three months old. However, in the Mindanao region, I was only able to visit one place: Iligan. And that was 12 years ago. I really loved that place. I saw Maria Cristina Falls for the first time. Tinago Falls was so beautiful, it so rightly deserved its name - the hidden beauty. And the lechon was to die for.

Iligan City! City hall on top of a hill overlooking the whole town. And have you seen the basketball near the city hall? They utilized a sunken flat portion of the hill as the court and carved the hill sides as benches. I took a nap in one of those grass covered set when I was there. Aside from the falls, the hot springs of Iligan are popular too. Definitely, I will make Iligan as one of my stop-over.

as much as i want to tour around the philippines, it seems to me that i haven't or never got the chance to do it because, instead, outside the philippines, like Hongkong and Japan, i have already visited, and that's because of my work. i really like to visit different places in the philippines, but its always delayed or cancelled. its ironic though, ive visited other countries, but on my own country, i haven't. im ashamed of myself...huhu! but anyways, there's always next time. and i hope i can...

Such irony happen to lot of us. A friend of mine from the north lamented that she knows how to speak more dialects/languages from the south but can not even talk fluently other dialects from here hometown. But do take a vacation after working outside the Philippines. Pamper yourself by visiting the countryside and knowing more about our homeland.

I wish I can do the same. I have only visited a some provinces and tourist spots here but not so many. How I wish I had more money and much time to do it. I haven't been in Visayas or Mindanao my entire life. I've had a few vacations is some points in Luzon but it wasn't enough. I'm still a stranger in our own land and hoping I can go to some other places here.
