If NOTHING this congress has done in the past or this session has angered, neigh, ENRAGED you, THIS should. H. J. Res. 5 "Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President" http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=hj111-5 TREASON! Neither Congress Or Obama should even THINK of touching this. You want a civil war? You'll get one with this.

From what I am seeing Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY) has sponsored it. NO co-sponsors. Everyone in new york needs to be getting in touch with this guy and throwing a HUGE fit. It was introduced January 6th. So we need to act now to kill it. It has been assigned to the House Committe on the Judiciary. Here is a link to who the members are and how to contact them. Let your voice be heard! http://judiciary.house.gov/about/members.html

Most of us want term limits on congress and senate so why would we want to take term limits off for the president? This is just completely insane. What in the world are they thinking?

I'll definitely contact my Congressman and my Senators to let them know I'm against this but I really don't think we have to worry about it passing, do you? I mean, they couldn't even get the ERA through and that's something I would HOPE the majority of voters would support! Annie

Thanks for the list there xfahctor. Nice to see there are three Florida people I can harass directly. Wexler is useless, but Feeney and Schultz are certainly worth talking to. Then again, I think even Wexler has more sense than to back this ridiculous legislation.

Well, here's a list of the committee members. Haven't gone through it yet entirely, don't know who's new and who isn't. It is going to depend how in to the idea of a perpetual Obama presidency, or any presidency these guys all are. I will extrapolate. Lets say many members are convinced that Obama will do well enough to be elected to more than 2 terms and that a rival cannot, it would serve their interests to get this out would it not? Either way, this is the type of thing that should be faught tooth and nail from the beginning. It is when we fall in to believing simply that something "cannot pass"simply by virtue of it's negative nature, that things get through, because no oposition is voiced. Just trying to head this off at the pass because it is a very signifigant one and there are far more of the type who may support this in the new congress. Gotta stay vigilant and on top of these people annie, you should never turn your back on the ocean or congress. Democrats: Hon. Conyers Jr. Chairman (D) Michigan, 14th Hon. Berman (D) California, 28th Hon. Boucher (D) Virginia, 9th Hon. Nadler (D) New York, 8th Hon. Scott (D) Virginia, 3rd Hon. Watt (D) North Carolina, 12th Hon. Lofgren (D) California, 16th Hon. Is it only treason when Democrats introduce such resolutions, or was it also treason when Republicans have?

I would hope they wouldn't be that stupid. However, Obama seems to be able to control people like they are puppets. You are right that civil war would probably break out if this is passed, or at least I HOPE it would break out if this is passed. This would be yet one more step by America away from democracy and towards Socialism or a dictatorship. I am sure Obama wouldn't mind being elected to more than two terms so he could continue to push his agendas. Passing this would totally change the face of politics in America, and it would also make it possible to make a very common mistake that is made in business and politics as well. Keeping someone in a position of management of a company, or in a political office for too long is a bad thing. It is much better to bring new people into the loop on a regular basis. Doing so prohibits one person from stacking the cards too much in their own favor. This is one of the very governing principles that were put in place to help prevent our nation from becoming a dictatorship. On a similar note, I also believe that Supreme Court Justices should NOT be appointed to lifetime terms, but that is a topic for another discussion. We definitely need to VOTE THIS DOWN. If it passes, we also need to be ready to fight to prevent this from happening...

Still trying to find out what committee it was introduced in and who was on it. Remember this can't pass with out a 3/4 vote from all the state legislatures, so get to them too.

This is just nuts. Your right Civil War will break out, but did you really think that Obama was not getting in there to try to make this a socialistic nation?????? Come on those people that voted for him I bet are peeing in their pants now because they are scared of what he might do or is going to do.

the guy who introduced it was José Enrique Serrano (D) of New York. He has done so in a number of other sessions, but it never made it out of committee, THIS TIME, it made it out to the floor. I am trying to find out who is on the committee now, maybe that will give something of a clue as to why it made it this time.

Removing the limitation on number of terms a president can serve is no more socialist (By which I presume you mean Marxist; Socialism springs from much, much older traditions) than it is conservative all the best urban

It's not the first time - it's FAR from the first time, in fact, that this has been proposed. This quote is from the NY Times in 2006: Since 1956, many bipartisan resolutions to repeal the 22nd Amendment have been submitted to Congress - and gone nowhere. The most recent one to be buried in a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee was proposed last February. Oddly, both the current chairman of that committee, F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin, and the former chairman, Henry J. Hyde of Illinois, both Republicans, have in the past co-sponsored resolutions to repeal the amendment. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/05/opinion/05burns.html The entire editorial is rather interesting reading, especially for someone who stands firm on the original intent of the Constitution.

It doesn't matter who supported it, it's plain wrong. I probably over used the word treason, it was angermostly, and this would still have to pass 3/4 of the state legislatures. But too much crap has slipped under the radar lately becuse people didn't pay attention. So from now on, I'm going to bullhorn everything I find, no matter how little a chance it apears to have in passing.

Hello X, Thanks for the 'heads up'. I appreciate that you have resigned yourself to never assume that something won't pass under the radar of a Congress occupied by rep's who have supported the U.S. Constitution as a "living breathing document". I fully support, and wholly appreciate, your effort to publicize all such proposed dictatorialism. To any who might take issue with my use of the word dictatorialism -- I would draw the readers attention to the way in which Hugo Chavez has and continues to incrementally establish himself as "President for Life", which is just another way of saying dictator! This is how it's done folks, a little at a time. Give 'em an inch, and before we know it, they'll be taking a mile. I will definitely make a point of calling my representatives on this one. Thank you, X! In the immortal words of Gen. John Stark: "Live free or Die!"

It was only introduce in the house on the 9th of January right? I think I'll take the chance on betting that this piece of legislation will fail spectacularly. Then again, maybe our new legislators will play close to the party lines and pass it. In the unlikely case that it happens, I hope Obama knows what's good for him and veto's it the moment it hits his desk.

We don't need to give Obama that opportunity on that chance that he won't veto it and then it will be too late. We need to stop it BEFORE it ever comes up for a vote.
