Marriage: Today, Tomorrow, or Never?

I've only been with my boyfriend for a short period of time, so although we've discussed marriage, it's nothing impending. I WAS, however, very frustrated with my ex who after 3 years and several hints, still appeared to be completely clueless about how to propose. Finally it hit me, this man was never going to propose, and even if he did, I was pretty certain I was going to say no. He was a great guy, but he wanted completely different things than I did. I can honestly say I spent a good year of frustration up till then, at one point actually getting drunk so that I could out and out ask him when we were getting married, and blame it on being intoxicated if the answer wasn't what I wanted. It wasn't. I wish him luck, and I have a better idea of what I want when it comes time to answering the question.
