What will you do for Valentine's Day?

For the past 5 or 6 years hubby and I have not bothered to celebrate Valentine's day at all. We don't find it as important of a holiday as some of the others. We'll celebrate Christmas and Easter mostly because of the kids, but the ones that don't require giving gifts to the kids are usually overlooked.
Part of it is because we can't afford to buy each other gifts, part of it is because I hate feeding into the commercialism of the holiday.
I still don't plan on purchasing any gifts this year, if anything I'll just buy a couple candles to give the house a romantic atmosphere, then we'll spend a quiet evening at home just being together.
What are your plans for Valentine's day?

Hey kats! It's too early for me to think about Valentine's
Day! My bf is too cheap anyway so I doubt it will be a big
deal with him! And at this moment he is really aggravating
me so I don't know what I'm going to do! Since it does come
out on a Saturday this year I will probably make something
nice for dinner if he behaves and then we'll see! He better
get me something or he won't even get the dinner!

I'm ss to hear that.
I remember when I was about 18 or 19 I'd been with this guy since September, and thus far it had been my longest relationship to that point. I was really excited about that Valentine's day, and just kept thinking how it was my first real Valentine's celebration and how special it would be.
I think I ended up spending like $50 on the guy. I bought him like 4 pair of silk boxers and I can't even remember what else.
So the day rolls around, and first of all I had to argue with him just to get to see him that day. He apparently hadn't planned on getting together that day. But finally we agreed I'd go to his house.
Then as a gift all he gives me is a rose and a card. The card was really sweet, but I was still very disappointed in the whole thing. He said that he didn't think Valentine's day would be such a big deal. It was rather depressing.
Needless to say, he and I broke up a few months later.

Well as I said in an earlier discussion I have not made any plans for this one, not sure that I will do either to be honest I just do not have the enthusiasm to celebrate it. I may feel a bit more enthusiasm nearer the time but it is still a few weeks away yet so plenty of time yet!!!

We don't usually do anything for valentines day. I think it is kind of a not important holiday too. we do things for each other throughout the year so one day of it isn't a big deal. We'll probably go out to dinner this year though. Since it has been awhile since we've had any time for just the two of us.

My husband also was not big on Valentine's Day although one memrable year he did buy me yellow rose (my favourite). I think that you have the right idea. Just have a koving evening together and make it just a bit special for your husband. Candles are a wonderful idea.
However, I had my first date with my husband to be on a Valnetine's day. We were supposed to go to a party but in his nevousness he had forgotton the address! No cell phones in those days. He also brought his friend to support him throughout this first date. The memories are very innocent and touching. Thank you for this post. I am just smiling now at how young we were. Blessings

hi katsmeow..(funny name)..spending time together is especially good for you to do. thing is for valentine's day my sister is giving me a dvd that i really wanted but couldn't afford for myself. i'm still recovering from christmas yet being hit with some birthdays in january. it just doesn't end. anyhow the funny thing is the title of the dvd is Seven Signs of the Apocalypse which is about the end of the world. hehe. on the day of expressing love what better way to show it than a dvd about the end of the world. i get a kick out of it. but i'm really looking forward to it. i already saw the show on the History Channel and liked it so much i wanted the dvd. i also want to show it to a friend.

since Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year my boyfriend and I thought that we would do something for the 2 of us this year, just me and him. we don't normally do anythig special we just hang out together.
so this year we made a reservation for this amazing steak house downtown called Ruth Chris..sooooo good! and we booked a room in the same hotel where the restaurant is so we're gonna spend the night there and maybe go shopping togheter the next day!
im really excited should be fun, we've been going through a rough patch for a couple weeks so this should be good for us
