I live in a small town
but we do have a hospital with er
and a few overnight beds
also a nursing home.
13 more employees of the hospital
and nursing home were given their
lay off slips today.
I am happy to say that it was no
health care workers..just support staff
like admissions,security, etc
How's it going where you live?

With the big news of Woolworths going out of business which has hit the high street and the unemployment figures there are other trading establishments starting to go the same way, I know I shouldn't be selfish but I am due to come off benefits next month and go back to jobsearching, couldn't have timed it worst could I? But my saving grace is that I am willing to put my hand to anything, I am versatile and as long as it's a job and pays enough to support me and having a little place to myself then I am willing to accept any job. But it is incredibly worrying and our government are not doing enough.

It is a truly scary thing and lay offs are happening all over. I had a friend that just lost his job, a week before Christmas, of all the times, I think that is just cruel to do to someone.

it had gotten really bad in my small town. there are about 6000 people in our county and my daughter had to go to the local food bank last friday and they told her that on the previous monday that they had had 85 families come in for food!! There usual is about 3-4 families a week!! that is REALLY bad and sad. My hubby is a truck driver and his company is in a bigger town. they have been doing pretty good. there is just nothing here.

That's pretty surprising that the health care industry is laying off. In the news they have announced some of the top industries for employment at this time. The health care industry was one of them.
The town that I live in is normally slow in the winter, so no surprises. Hopefully, things will pick up in the Spring. I would like to find something to do in addition to working online. Maybe just a temp job would at least help out on my household finances.
I hope things turn around for your town and all of the others some time soon.

Hi Raydene, In our town this year alone, staff at Woolworths, Adams and Rosebys stores have all been made redundant as the firms have gone bust. Woolworths was 100 years old, it is sad to see, I am sure there have been others also but I have not heard but the whole of the UK is suffering, my brothers firm have laid off 12 workers and a lot or other companies have got rid of hundreds, there was good news though for a Devon fudge making company that went bust, someone bought them out and they are going to still continue the traditional name and have reemployed over half of the original workforce. Sad for a lot of people. Huggles. Ellie :D

That is very sad news. Well, same way here in my country too. I hope everything will be alright sooner. Let us pray that this crisis will end soon.

The last I heard 10.6% of our state is unemployed. Not good. Over 100 million dollars are paid out each WEEK to the unemployed people. Now where is that vault located?? LOL I have been unemployed for two months now. Still can't find a job. Every day we hear about more companies laying staff off. It is scary. It is not going well around here at all.

That's too bad about the layoffs. I guess there's been a bunch in my city, but I couldn't tell you any numbers. Seems to be the same sad story everywhere, I guess.

Here in the Albany - Troy NY area things are not looking good. Many people are getting laid off, yet the price of gas is rising again.

Hi raydene! Oh my, I have heard a lot of lay offs going on in the United States and it is also true to some companies here in our country. Our government has been telling us that we will not be great affected with what is happening globally but that is so untrue. I have friends who have already closed down their shops in malls and have heard that there are two big refining companies in our company that has shut down. Oh my!
Take care and blessings to you dear!

my boyfriends work keeps laying off more and more. He has been on layoff for 6 weeks now and when its time to go back they will call him a couple days before and say they are extending it another week! The first time they did permanent layoffs they let go of the whole second shift and then they lay off 30 more permanently and now the other day they let go another 39!! They keep telling him he still has a job it is just extended but we are constantly worring that he is going to get the call and say they don't need him no more. He works for a factory that makes parts for ford, GM, and Chystler! So you can imagine what we are going through! It has been extremely hard for us this past holiday season!

I can't believe that they are laying off employees in hospitals. I was laid off two weeks back as our educational institute was not making money as there were very few takers for the courses offered by us. Luckily I have just got a new job which I have taken with a lower salary. I only hope this institute has better business.

Even in my country. There are more companies closing or shorten their working days to be able to save everything . company that are available are involved in call center or Information Technology. Sadly, some of the employess who lost their jobs are not choosy when it comes to finding new job because what matters to them is they have moeny to survive. The side effects are we lost skilled workers like those on working as Technicians and they arll going or planning to continue their job experience outside our country. I hope our government will plan to save them, like provide other programs for them.
