What's With Commitment? Is it a Value That's Still Taught?

Why do so many people lack the value/skill of commitment? I'm not only talking about marriage. Of course, some marriages aren't meant to be in (harmful, abusive, etc). But, can a person give "their word" anymore and have it mean anything?
Do parents teach their children that when they say they'll do something, to follow through? When they sign up for something, they give it their best shot?
Adults? Sign up to help? Are you there? Start going to church/temple (etc) are you still going?
What's it mean anymore? Anything?

you are certainly right. there are people nowadays who don't value commitment as much as others did and are doing. we could not blame them either. ours to do is to make our part..be an example to them. do not compromise. even though it is hard, but still, we have to press on.. there are some trials to face when we have commitment, but in the end, it is us who will benefit from it.. thanks..

Oh, you're right too. Thanks a lot. Actions do speak louder than words. So, I hope living be example does help others realize when they're not doing their part. Thanks for responding.
