When blogging about controversial topics.....

Firstly, should you use your real name, or the name you normally use online or should you create a completely different name?
Also, would you include topics in your existing blog, if they fit the blogs topic, or would you create a separate blog to prevent anyone from linking your existing blog(s) with this one?
I am thinking of writing about racism, relationships, politics, religion, and other controversial topics. Some of my opinions will more than likely leave readers feeling less than kindly towards me.
Right now, the most anyone could find out about me from my online pen name is the state in which I live. Also, please consider that I use the same pen name to at content writing sites to earn an income.

Using a different nickname for writing controversial topics should not be seen as a sign of cowardice. Sometimes people become too emotional and they will attack you wherever you may be. Linking your blogs may not be a good idea unless you are prepared to face possible consequences like receiving abusive comments even in your non-controversial blog.
Actually it is not that difficult for someone to trace us if he/she really wants to.
all the best,

Thanks! The fact that it's so easy to trace things online has been one of my considerations. At least with something separate, I can at least avoid any negative results on my other blogs by the majority.
