Do you make a wish every time you see a shooting star?

When I was a still a a little boy, my Mom and my siblings said that every time I will see a shooting star, I can make a wish. But the wish should be told while the shooting star is still on the air. It's quite hard because the shooting star moves so fast, in a blink of an eye, it would be gone. I can't remember the last time I see a shooting star, maybe because I don't usually stay outside the house. How about you, do you also make a wish every time you see a shooting star?

That is also what old people told me. You know here in our coutry, there are lots of beliefs.i have did that for so many times. but my wish is not granted. i know that is not true. but anyway, there is no hard in trying. once your wish has been, you are so lucy. but as what you have said, just a blibk of an eye, the shooting star will be gone, and your nort yet even finish with your wish. i also very seldom see shooting star since i also don"t go out the house. I am jusr in front of my computer or in teh office.

I forget but when I do see a shooting star I try and make a wish. It has been ages since I last seen a shooting star though. Those things are super fast and are hard to catch even if you are trying to see the shooting star. The last time I've seen a shooting star has probably been more than 10 years.

i've always thought that when you "wish upon a star" your wish will come true...until i started seeing shooting stars last last summer. my home has an open rooftop and during my sleepless nights, i would stay up late and i don't know why, but i developed a habit of observing how beautiful the night sky was. And so, i started seeing "moving stars" and sometimes, me and my sisters would see a fairytale-like shooting star. they were really beautiful, and every time i see one, i would always have a wish.
Apparently, my wishes, as far as i could remember, did not come true. Probably because they were "big" wishes that require a lot of "factors". lol. And so i realized (i was in college already, can you believe it?) that it may or may not be true. In my case, my wishes did not come true. lol. :)
But just seeing one is really magnificent. And oh, one of my wishes came true! i wished to see one more shooting star so that i'd have one more wish. :) it's really childlike but there's really no harm in believing, right? :)

I am one that is for truth and not useless fairy tales.
Funny how the world loves to lie to its children, but it is all ok because, everyone does it.
No wonder there is so much misconception, a lot of these tales are believed for a long time, if not forever.
Tsk Tsk world, tell the truth to your children.
Make sure they know the difference between an old wives tale and reality, if it just for fun, then that is reason enough if it makes you happy, just remember, it is a fairy tale.
I got the same tale, with a little twist.
You were not allowed to tell your wish to anyone, if you did, it would not come true.
I saw a movie about Chinese vampires, if you were Chinese and brought up on these stories, it would scare you, being brought up on a different flavour vampire, I just laughed and laughed, Chinese vampires can not walk or run, they can only hop.
And I still have never met Santa, but the tellings go on.

And grown ups still wonder where their kids learn to tell fibs from?
The grown ups themselves have been training them on this skill since they appeared.
The kids now only have to figure out when it is OK to lie and when not to, when it is accepted by others is when, like when corruption is exposed by an honest person, they then quickly loose their job, their friends, and pretty much everything. It will then be obvious that nearly everyone is corrupt and or tells lies, ask a policeman what is reality.
What a crazy planet.

Hey markmoney
Yes we are told in our childhood from our family and friends that when you see a shooting star you need to make a wish which will be gauranteed to come true. I know that and used to wish for things, but now I have stopped doing it. I feel this is stupid thing after learning and being able to comprehend our own thoughts. I mean we know for now that shooting stars are nothing but actually the small outer space meteriods burning off in our atmosphere as they enter it. They disintegrate before they reach the earth. SO how can those things help you grant a wish? Its so illogical.
What is you opinion about it?

Yes, it is told more to a child. Well now that I'm not a child anymore, that belive is more of just a fun. But I will still do it when I see one, because it is really very hard to see a shooting star as it only appears very seldom. And there's no harm in doing it. Thanks for your response. Happy myLotting!

I, myself, have never ever seen a shooting star. Sometimes I believe that they don't exist? You know? But there's the hope and the maybe that there really are shooting stars and that there are some wishes that get granted because of the faith in the shooting star. I don't know, I find it comforting to know that something or someone out there is looking out there for me.

I think when you make a wish when you see a shooting star, it will bring you good luck. Many people say about this. And I do not see shooting star very often, and just as what you said, the shooting star moves so quickly, it is not easy to catch the time. So you could prepare a wish in your heart, next time when you see a shooting star, you could make that wish.

In fact I have not seen a shooting star before. If I have a chance to see it, I think I will make a wish and I don't care whether my wish will come true or not:)
I love China

I have never seen a shooting star. I really wish to see one and then make a wish to it. I really wonder if it gets fulfilled or not. Have your wished being fulfilled by a shooting star? I will definately wish something short whenever I get a chance.

In my life I have seen as many as possible in 1980s a lot. Because I'll be sitting always roof of my house and watching the sky for ever. Even I walk in the night after dinner with my friends for a wwhile. I use to see many of them. But the story there in my village was different than what you have discussed markmoney. There my villagers use to warn me don't look at that shooting star your memory power will go down, but I never worried about them comment I like nature and lot about sky it is alway wonderfull and still I am continuing it afetr my dinner but here is no friends now I am alone, but sky was with me ever in my life time. Thanks sharing markmoney. Best of luck. Bye.

Yeah. My wife often said to her children the same thing. I thought the belief was locally accepted but from your info it was perhaps worldwide. Has any one proved it? If you make a wish when you see a shooting star, how long will you wait the wish comes true?

Maybe I won't make any wish when I see a shooting star, but I can't help wandering back the childhood in that moment. My grandma brought me up in the countryside, in the hot summer night, my siblings and I did like spreading out a mat on the ground in the yard, then lying on the mat, enjoying the stars twinkling in the sky above. Grandma, after finished the housework, would lie among us, and tell the stories long long ago. When someone saw a moving star, he/she would burst out in surprise, then all of us would rush to make wishes. It doesn't matter whether the wishes will be granted or not, the important is how content and how happy we were. I will tell my child this old story, just for the fairytale-like beauty.
