Should we be fearful of the future ?

Why is it that most of the time that we think of the future with a sense of fear as to what happens in terms of terrorism, global warming, natural disasters and so on ? Is it more in terms of a precautionary sense or is it that we see little hope ? We like progress and welcome it, but have the sense of pessimism with respect to the future. Maybe it's because we will not be there when it happens. There must be enough reasons to be optimistic. What are your views ?

May be this a hidden human instinct to have some fear for the future! All over the ages, people care for the future, but they don't know what future brings in exact! Sometimes pain or sometimes gain! So, for a better sense of responsibility, it is better to carry certain level of fear for future. This ultimately makes us responsible for our task and keeps us in discipline and right track of action! Thanks for this nice posting and have a nicely fearless day!

I think, there's been enough reason to be fearful of the current state of affairs. We have to admit that we are vulnerable, scared, annoyed and angry. Can you tell be what the future generation, the children are thriving on, do the have enough good reasons to smile and let go! i can go on and on and on. However, admitting the fact is in a way ushering in a hope that we KNOW and we CARE. That's the stepping stone and all landmarks in history came through the grievance that we are seething inside now. I would rather call is optimism that makes us think, criticide, air our voices and trying to make a difference. i see this as a hope and mission to change things at the earliest. It's rather an wakeup alarm than the dying bell. To me, glass is always half full and I am sure that amidst all gross happenings there is a silver lining that gets us going. Thanks.

I fully agree with your views Mimpi. There is just too much to be fearful of for the future generation, when it comes to seeing the present affairs and what could become of it. I was trying to find some reasons through this discussion for us to see optimism and other than hoping for the best, the whole future looks clouded. Being cautious and trying to make a difference is what we have to do. All the technological advances and those made in the field of medicine seem to be overshadowed by the negativity of the wars, the terrorism, the envoirnmental issues and more. The silver lining must be there and we have ourselves going. Thanks for your wonderful response.

Most of what you're talking about is stuff that is hyped-up by the media. If you stop watching the news, a lot of that fear goes away and optimism sets in. I'm not sure what the rationalle is behind keeping the mass public scared but it's being done for some reason. Happy MyLotting!

Fair enough. A lot of things that we do or think are because of the influence of the external world. But can we shut ourselves frm it or ignore it ? Thanks and happy mylotting to you as well.

Being fearful of the future is just a fear of the unknown. Since you don't know what tomorrow may bring you have to make the most of the day. As a wise turtle said to an ambitious panda, "Today is a gift, that is why they call it the 'present'". Happy myLotting!

I think if we focus on the negative things around us...we will become so weak, and the end result is fear...but if we'll fix our eyes to the promises of God, that He will not leave us nor forsake us and He has a plan for us that will give us a hope and future, then there's nothing to worry about. We must give our complete trust in God alone.

We should face future in a positive way. If there are disasters, there are also opportunities in store for us. Let us think of a way we could meet those challenges so we can have a better future instead of fearing what might happen...

In terms of the etrrorism, glbal warming , natural disasters, it seems that there's a little hope in the future. But anyway, if we live in pessimism that will do nothing in vain. So, we should be precautionary and take postive actions.

We can't avoid of feeling the fear when it comes to our future. Ofcoures theres no one that wants their future to be tragic. But the reality is that, we are not capable of knowing what will be our future. Only God himself has the power of knowing that and he plans for that future of ours. But then I believe that our present always connects on our future.Whatever we do in the presents do have the impact on our future. So instead of having that fear of what will be your future, then why not work hard in our present so that we can have a good future when time comes.

I like to live in the present. What happens in the future is irrelevant as may not be you every one in this world die. Of course, why should we think of future? is this anyway helps. I personally, do not care for the things which DISTURBS my peace of mind. What is the use thinking of the future. what will happen that happens. no one can stop. then why should we think- simply useless.

I guess the only thing i could say is live every day to it's fullest even if it is a horrible day. I mean if it is a bad day there's nothing you can do about it anyway except for try to make it good. I seem to be more optimistic about things but as for the future i would say to plan ahead, make a savings account, and hope everything financially comes out ok for yourself.

I don't to what to say to the feeling about the future. Whether it is fear or sadness. Sadness for the reason that we have come to the development of technology to this stage taking so much time, then to get these all destroyed is the sad thing even if I may not be there when this happens. There are many evidences now that the world is in danger. Like you said terrorism, global warming, natural disasters and so on. Because of these terrorism there is a chance that the world war can take place which can now end the world. That's why I think many nations are staying quiet not to interfere in many cases. In this case let's be optimistic that no nation will want to end the world. Global warming is really the matter of concern nowadays and who can predict the natural disasters. At least let's be optimistic that these misfortunes won't take place until our generation survive. But saying this we are being selfish for the coming generation, but what else we can do?

I do agree with your point of view. And that is eexactly what i am trying to get across. The optimism is more as a sort of hope rather than actually wishing and wanting the future to be better.

For me, I think we shouldn't be afraid of our future. In fact, we should be thrilled. We just mind things happening today, but of course we can't really get the thought out of our mind what will happen tomorrow, right? We just have to trust God for everything and ask for His guidance.

I think so many people have fears just because the future is unknown. Fear in itself is not a bad thing, and I don't think necessarily means a person is pessimistic. They might just be scared. Sure, there are some naysayers who are just insanely pessimistic (and they have the right to be), but I think most people are pretty optimistic. We are afterall humans and minimally have the capacity to change the world in some way. Whatever happens bad things will always occur. Natural disasters occur whether or not humans are doing anything, terrorism occurs because some people are just terroristic in their viewpoints, global warming occurs for god knows what reasons. I think in the end for most people it is just a precautionary thing, to put it in your words.

I have hope that things will be better in the future. These are tough times but fortunately we do have control over our attitudes. I choose not to fear the future. Fear stops us from growing and experiencing life.
