So I was reading the paper the other day, just one of those daily free papers, where the majority is entertainment news, and I read the Jackie Chan is POSSIBLY going to play Mr Miyagi in the remake of "Karate Kid".....haWHA??? I mentioned this to a coworker, and his response? "...Is Owen Wilson going to be Daniel-San?"
I burst out laughing, and then could NOT stop thinking about that.
But no, they apparently have Will Smiths' son Jaden set up to play Daniel.
So what is your reaction to this? Can you see it? Think he'll do a good job? Or do you think this is just plain old gossip and wishful thinking?
Who do you think should be playing Mr Miyagi? Heck! I know Pat is still alive, why not him again?

I agree, like the new remake coming soon, "The Wolf Man". I actually started another discussion after I heard about it yesterday, I am UBER excited for that one.
But the thing is, sometimes the company remaking the movie, have this idea that everything should be updated, including the story sometimes. Let's say when they were a kid when they saw the original, they though, "Well why didn't they just....?" or, "Why didn't they explain this?" and so forth, and then boom, different movie.

One word....Godzilla....What was Matthew Broderick thinking??
But I think it's also for the newer generations that would TECHNICALLY have no way of knowing the greatness of the original, if they possibly never heard of it. SO, make a remake, hear the comments, see the original, etc.

I think he would be able to pull it off. I do not see a problem with it. I would love to see Pat play some role in the movie though. I think he is still alive. I have not heard anything about him dieing. Also Jaden should be good to play Daniel-San! I look forward to the movie. Has anyone else noticed they are steady making remakes of the older movies and tv shows lately?

Unfortunately Pat did die. A previous post on here told me so, and I confirmed it on www.imdb.com.
Yeah, I kind of noticed that too. BUT! I CAN'T wait for the new Wolf Man movie with Benetio Del Torro!!
The trailor looks awesome!

Why are they remaking Karate Kid? It was an 80's classic and should be left there. Can no one come up with new stories? They just have to keep telling the same ones again.
That aside i think that if they must remake it Jackie would be a great choice and it probably will be a cool movie to see.

Who knows why they do anything? I hear they're making a remake of footloose as well.
I think it's more for the benefit of the new generation though, to see what movies we were impressed with and show them with this generations of actors as well.
I know Jackie would probably put a lot of awesome action sequences in there as well, with comedic acting...but then I just picture him, in make-up, to look like Mr Miyagi, and it just looks wrong...

It would be interesting if this movie will indeed push through. I's definitely watch it and see if the new cast stay consistent with the Karate Kid theme but at the same time have their own twist to it

Oh that makes me sad. That almost makes me sadder than thinking about the possibility of someone remaking Rocky Horror Picture Show with anyone other than Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter. Almost.
Plus, Jaden's not really old enough, is he? Isn't he the one that was in the Pursuit of Happyness?
Why must we remake it? Did we not learn anything from the Next Karate Kid?

That's right! I forgot he was in the Pursuit of Happyness movie!
AND I LOVE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW!!
But I will admit, it would be interesting to see a remake of that....not saying they should, but then again then still put on performances.
MMmmmmm....Tim Curry in stockings....lol.

I kinda saw bits and pieces of The Forbidden Kingdom, so I think he can pull it off. He di da really good job as the wise old man in that movie, so I am sure he can do a good job in the Karate Kid. Jackie Chan is a good actor. I can't imagine that he can do any worse than Cediric the Entertainer as a Honeymooner.

hmmm. Well I don't know if I can see Jackie Chan doing it. I love Jackie Chan but it just would be too different I guess. But I guess that is the point of a remake, to do some things different. I haven't seen will smith's son in anything yet so I'm not sure how he would be. It is really hard to remake such a classic movie. Pat left some pretty big shoes to fill.

He sure did! I like Jackie myself as well, but when I try to picture him, all I can see is Jackie in a bald cap, and the mustache, basically looking like miyagi, but it just doesn't look right.

I don't see anything wrong with him playing the part. Personally, I thought the original movie was beyond stupid, but some people liked it.
Anyone is better than Ralph Macchio. A shaved monkey would have been better. I have to admit to still being miffed about him getting the role in The Outsiders. Whoever did the casting didn't read the book.

Wow, I had to look that name up lol. So, that was Daniel eh? Hrm, didn't realize that was him either in the Outsiders when we had to watch it in high school.
His resume didn't expand all that much afterward either. mmmmmm Patrick Swayze in a muscle shirt *drools* he he, sorry.
I LOVE DEXTER TOO!
Thanks for expanding the discussion though!
Happy myLotting!
