President Obama started to work trying to pull this country together the day after he was elected to be our president. There was already some change.I was in awe seeing the upcoming president and first lady doing simple stuff like painting! And today he asked all people to work together.People cheered and cried. After that a congressman was walking from his house in DC to the capital and he said that people were stopping him and thanking him for what he had done.See people attitudes began to change quickly.I love it.I cried seeing all those people together on the mall cheering and crying, coming together. It was beautiful.

I don't trust Obama. He just seems "scary" to me.
What this country needs is the Lord Jesus Christ. We have pushed God out so much that we are suffering the consequences. As long as we continue to ignore God and His Word, our nation will continue to get worse.
We need the Lord Jesus Christ. We, as a nation, need to bow down and repent and receive the Lord.
May God help our nation!

You are right about needing Jesus Christ.Jesus does want us to work together.President Obama is not scary to me,matter of fact this is the first time I have heard that.

We need much less idolization of our new President and much more prayer for the "real" God to guide Obama's actions.

Barack Obama is a human being - a mortal man - just like every other American citizen - he puts his pants on every morning just like every other man (or woman) in this country. Being elected President does not make him immortal - it does not make him able to perform miracles. These times call for realistic expectations - something that many people can't fathom at this point.

I did a lot of research on Obama and what he was for and what he is against and that does worry me, because if he does what he believed in then America is in for a bad time. If God does not influence Obama's actions and change his heart, then people will realize that the change was not good. We must pray that God will take control, soften his heart, make him protect the unborn, not to walk with the perverse, and not to take money from the industrious and give to the lazy and certainly not to allow those who sneak into America to fatten at the expense of the true Americans.

And most of these companies and businesses that are owned by these "true americans" as you call them are going under and asking the government for bail out money. And if the money is lent to them they are not to give bonuses to themselves and other people in the higher brackets of the company. But,they did.One company even took their private jets to Washington,DC to pick up their loan and was told no.Oh well.I guess that's what happens when you are a "True american" and try to take advantage.

Like he said with his encouragement, that we have to come together and work together to get our country on track.
This is the first time I have felt encouragement from a president..Always before I felt that if I did do anything it would not be appreciated and would get me no where. Now If feel that if I do something no matter how small it will be appreciated and that it will get me somewhere.

I feel the same way. I felt like he was speaking from his heart and being as honest as he could. I like that about him. He won't sugar coat things. He flat out said that we are in trouble and never promised that he'd be able to give it a quick fix.

I was going to say in response to your comment till I saw Lore's that yes we need to pray, but like President Obama asked of us, that we need to work together, come together. We just can't sit here and think that he can do it all by himself. However I do not remember any previous president asking that of the people.

We can only hope that he will be capable of fulfilling the heightened expectations of those who have chosen to idolize him.

I've told this story before, but I think I'll tell it again. Back in the 1970's the department I was in (where I worked) was told that we were getting a black supervisor. Even though we still had our white supervisor, some of the black girls stopped obeying him. When he would ask them to do a job, they would say, "We don't have to, Luther is our supervisor." When our new supervisor came, they were expecting a free ride, but wonder of wonders, he expected them to work the same as everybody else. It wasn't long before they had no use for him.
I hope the people who are expecting something special from Obama aren't like those girls who expected too much from Luther. When Obama says all of us working together, I hope they understand and aren't expecting a free ride. That change in attitude can change quickly. I know. I've seen it.

I hope so too.The majority of the people seemed to understand and be willing to work with him.Let's hope that they don't get tired of it after a short period of time and stop.

Everyone loves a party...but we will have to see how many of them are willing to do the work too. THey may not support him as much when they have to more than just show up and cheer. I hope I am wrong...but we americans are exactly the self sacrificing type.

That is true.I said something similar in another reply.I hope your wrong too. But,there are many people who want to have the fun,but not pay the consequences.Kinda' like men that can make the baby, but not be a father.

Hello dfollin! I haven't seen the inauguration. But I have a strong belief that Obama will make it. Uniting american people is a good sign, I hope he will clean up all the mess which is happpening to America right now. I could probably say that racism in America finally ended.

Will you get the inauguration on tv there? There was a man who came all the way from Africa to see this today. He said that is not only for america, but it is a celebration all over the world.I hope and pray that it does work.
Unfortunatly racism has not ended but it has gotten better and when the racist see that he is a good person hopefully they will change.

I think it was beautiful also. I feel like I can relate much more with him and feel closer as a human. I think he is making a great change by giving hopes to all the people who are a minority. I know that there is a lot of tasks coming up for him to accomplish, but we as a nation must help out also. This is all of our business.

Like I had said in another discussion that I started a few weeks ago that he is from not such a high class background that's part of the reason that I voted for him.Just yesterday I was telling my mom that seeing him speak was like having a neighbor talking to you.
He has a plate full of tasks to do,but like he said we need to work together.I agree this is all of our business.

Not for the U.S.A but for all of the world, Obama's selection is really good. It shows us racism is nothing but just wasting time. It will hit the speakers "you and us" speech. But, all these good things needed to be forged by some enlightened mind. U.S.A must stay as a country, not the so called "big brother of world". Other countries inner political issues must stay as an inner thing, not just something to mixed by other countries. It's not just for U.S.A, it's must be done by all countries, U.S.A is just one example.
So Obama must not make the mistakes of his ancestors, if he says he is different, he must show it. Not by digging history wrong but by writing a new future for his citizens. If he can overcome the financial crisis, there will be no need to fighting for "bringing prospect and democracy"
