Why do environmental scientist earn a lot?

I came across an article in yahoo which gave the top ten highest paying jobs in US. I do understsnd why an software expert or a nurse would earn much but it puzzles me a bit why environmental scientists have high paying jobs.

I would think they are included in energy research as well. Finding enviromentally safe solutions and such. Also, a lot of companies hire them to receive credit for looking like they protect the enviroment. Other than those, I am not sure...yet. Scientists in general make a lot.
