My children and I are making art projects for their grandparents, too! Here is one of the projects we're working on: handmade books using coloring pages.
We're going to tea stain some heavy-weight paper, fold it in half, and staple it into books. Then, we're going to use decorative corner punches (the kind that look like lace) to embellish all the corners of the pages of the books. I like to use old food boxes as book covers, and we cover them over using construction paper. Once the books have been made, we're going to cut out pictures from coloring pages (either pictures I find online, or ones in coloring books they don't mind cutting up). We're going to use glitter gel pens to color the pictures, and then glue them into the book. We're going to add poetry, quotations, song lyrics and letters. We're also going to make miniature envelopes to glue into various pages of the book so we can add small love notes, small pieces of art, and heart confetti. We're also going to cut out hearts, glue them down, and put pictures of the kids on them.
I hope this helps!
