Good to hear this news. Sania has given Indian Tennis a stardom. Now many talented players are coming into limelight and entering the international arena.. Somdev is also creating sensation now...

Well, I agree with you, if not in totality. She has taken Indian Tennis to new heights in the International Arena. Before her, few people were knowing about women Tennis players in India. For that she deserves all that she has got up till now. But it is so sad that she she is making her exit in big matches in as early as 2nd round. Although she proved to be a top 30 players in the world, she could not really stay there, thanks to her nagging injury saga. I doubt, if she could make to top 50 again. Coming to her docotarate, well she deserves it too as she has made the whole country proud by whatever she has achieved as a Tennis Pro from India. My she get all health, goodluck in the days to come. What I want to see is someone from India be it in Men or Women circuit make it big by winning a Grandslam. I am 42 years old. May I hope to get my dream into reality atleast by the time I am 65, if I am alive.

Well this is the problem with India, you are rewarded for non performance. What has Sania Mirza done during 2008? She disgraced us in olympics, and was a total failure in 2008, mostly loosing in first and second round matches, even in doubles she has failed, she has reached the mixed doubles finals in the austalian open mainly due to Mahesh boopathy. For this the Central government as well as so many other institutions were rewarding her for non performance. Who knows being a muslim if she wins a Grand slam singles tournament, the central government may even bestow the Bharath Rathna to her.

As I hv said earlier consistency is the key to Sania Mirza's success which proved a mirage at the Australian open. She expectedly lost to Nadia Petrova in the second round although she claimed in the post match press conference that she could not hv asked for a more positive start to her career post injury. And bestowing a doctorate on her by the Madras University is only a recgnition of the fact that we can have players who have the capability to challenge the best in the world despite having no system in place to produce quality players. It shoud be seen(the award of doctorate)as positive fallout for other aspiring players to emulate and excel.
