Which coat type do you prefer, Smooth or Rough?

I was just curious about how many prefer the smooth variety, and how many prefer the rough.
I prefer the smooth, because it resembles what the Saints' coat used to look like before they crossed with Newfie blood. It's much easier to fair with when it's snowing, and I believe it's much easier to groom also. And it's much better to see the build of the dog.
But I do agree the rough coats seem to be much more beautiful.

I've always had a soft spot for the roughs, myself. For the longest time I didn't even realize there was a Smooth variety, since Saints were never shown in the area when I was growing up.
It wasn't until Beethoven's Second (I believe) that I finally saw the smooth. Having been used to the rough coat from the first movie and pictures of the breed being primarily roughs represented, it just seemed odd to me, and I didn't like it.
Nowadays there are more Saints being shown in our area, since a breeder moved not too far away, and I still prefer the roughs.

Same here. I had never heard of a smooth until I started my search for a show breeder for my first show prospect. I had always thought a smooth was a shaved Saint. They were very unfamiliar to me.

No problem.
I believe roughs have the advantage when it comes to a beautiful Saint. They always seem to catch the eye of some one.

I love all dogs. Doesn't matter to me what their coats are like, if they are a sweet dog I am going to love them. My dogs fur was kind of inbetween. She was not really fluffy, she had a beautiful shiny coat, but it was still pretty soft, and and her chest hair was a bit fluffier then the rest of her hair.

Yeah... my dogs lose a lot of fur, especially in the Spring and Fall. It can be very hard to keep a place clean.
