why stock markets are regarded as a betting heaven?

today world economy is on a downtrend. the most affected one is the US economy. europe is no better and asia is even worse except india and china. the ship is shinking and noone is there to save it, atleast for now. the worldwide stock markets are the indicators....but sometimes these stock markets dont react on fundamentals or technicals of real economy... stocks are manipulated and the sentiments kill the prospects. now it behaves like a gambling den or a betting racket. now the mind says, "just wait n watch" and the heart says, "be prepared for the worse."
