Today, I had an intersesting conversation. A friend and I were talking about racism. She told me that she feels like she has been living in a bubble, so to speak, because she was not aware of how much racism there is in our country.
My question to all of you is, is racism obvious where you live? Meaning, do you hear racial comments often or see things happening around you that display racism?

I don't hear many remarks, except from my father about twice a month, which is really annoying. I do see it every now-and-then, so yes, There is a lot of racism where I live. Most from white to black.

I do not currently see racism around me. Everyone seems to be getting along with one another. When I was younger the only time I saw racism was in school when watching history videos, or reading books. The only time in my life I have experienced racism was when I left my parents house at 16, and went out on my own. And no it was not whites being racist against blacks like you hear so much about. It was blacks being racist against whites. Calling them names, beating them up, and black authorities just looking the other way as it happened, doing nothing about it.

There is this song in a musical called Avenue Q that is called "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist." It's a pretty catchy song. I recommend that you listen to it.
I think that the song is right. EVERYONE is a little bit racist. Either you laugh at racist jokes or your have some form of stereotype in your head. That doesn't mean that you are hateful or even mean, it is just a fact of life. It is important to remember that white people are not the only race that participates in racism though. Perhaps if we remembered that, we would not all freak out about it so much, you know?
