well i've been helping also my friends to quit smoking.
at first i discuss to them the effects of this on our health , i even tried to research some photos about the cause and effect of it.
but i can say that even though how hard we try to help them, if they don't help themselves, our efforts will be useless. quitting from smoking should always come from the willingness of the person to quit doing this.
good luck!

First thing she should go see her doctor. There may be a treatment that her doctor knows that may help. After that , just support her anyway you can. For the first few days try to keep her away from places where smokers are. Wish her luck for me.

It isn't easy. I've been trying to quit for years, and nothing has worked. It isn't just the physical addiction, but also the psychological addiction and the habit associated with that. Like I said, it is not easy.

..foremost, if your friend is willing to quit then she must set her mind to it.. then her motivations must be the bad effects of smoking in her health.. every time she craves for smoking, she has to remember that her health is being harmed.. If she doesn't want her health to be harm, then definitely, she will not smoke.. try to introduce her candies.. maybe it could help.. because I've had friends who are really hard up in quitting smoking.. you also try to help her see a counselor on that matter.. maybe, she needs to undergo some counseling sessions.. I hope she will overcome that.. God bless..

I have the same problem for my father several years ago. Our family (my mother, my sister, and me) tried to convince him no to smoke. But, that was not easy because it was already his habit. Until the time when he had severe cough, he decided to stop smoking. We, as a family, were really happy and supported him to stop smoking.
I guess the most important thing is the person that want to quit has a strong desire to quit smoking. We, as friend, try to make the environment conducive for her. Let say when she wants to smoke, you can try to ask her to do some other stuffs. Of course, it needs help from many many people.
