How Often Do You Exercise?

United States

I've started trying to eat healthier and exercising and I'm hoping it will help me lose some weight. Before ended I had lost 17 pounds but once the holidays came, my diet went out the window. So last week I started it back up. I've already lost 5 pounds and I'm really happy and excited about it and I'm hoping that I can keep it up. I try to exercise for at least 30 minutes every night. I work full-time and I normally have to walk all day long, so I'm sure I burn quite a few calories in just my everyday life, but I have noticed that I can really feel the exercises working. You know how it feels when they are working, it kind of burns, but it's a good kind of burn. So, how often do you exercise?

I don't really exercise unless you count walking up and down the stairs about 30 times a day. I hate to exercise and I hate to sweat. If I am going to lose any weight it will have to be by changing what I eat. I am a wimp when it comes to exercise.

My resolution this year is to lose 25 lbs and to keep it off permanently. I've always been an off and on exerciser but now I'm taking it to a new level. I spend 50 minutes on the treadmill at the gym and weight train for 15 minutes four days a week. I bought a pedometer and I'm walking 10,000 steps a day but aiming to increase that to 15,000 steps a day. I also want to increase my weight training to six days a week. This is doable for me because I took early retirement a little over a year ago. I like to say that my new job is getting myself in shape but let me tell you weight loss just gets harder and harder as you get older. Best of luck to you.

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I wish you lots of luck to on your weight loss goals. I know what you mean about it being harder when you get older. When I was a teenager I lost about 50lbs and it seemed so easy back then, now that I'm 30, whew, it isn't coming off as fast.

Not as much as I should. It's kind of difficult as I'm in a wheelchair and most gyms don't have equipment to accommodate me; I also don't like being stared at like I'm a creature from the Black Lagoon when I go there either. I know I need to workout though; I'm going to start taking wheelchair equestrian lessons soon.

I wish you luck on your equestrian lessons. That will be a whole lot of fun for you! I'm sure you will enjoy it. It is great that even though you are in a wheelchair that you want to keep in shape. I can totally relate to not wanting people to stare at you. I'm not in a wheelchair, but I've been overweight most of my life and it has always left me self-conscience. I'm hoping losing some weight will help me gain some self-esteem and confidence in myself.

I'm watching you. jk. I don't like to work out in public either. I don't work out for others entertainment. I workout to stay healthy. I don't need to go to a gym and get all greased up, and flex my muscles to impress people. Those places are for steroid pumped gorillas. Working out at home is better. I can imagine though its a challenge for you. Good to see you are interested in staying in shape though. Alot of people i've seen in wheelchairs just don't care.

Hello friend, well i am very lazy in doing exercises. In my home around 50 steps are there up and down so whenever i have to go to my room i have to climb all these and reach so no problem for doing exercises. I believe what ever we eat it should be healthy and we control our diet by eating control diet chart. have a nice time.

Hi singlemommy I don't exercise much anymore, but I still try 2 drink 8 glasses of water a day. that's really a good thing. i used 2 walk 4 miles a day, but i stopped. that's another topic. Eating healthier, and water helps. I myself gained a lot of weight after I stopped smoking. It's been 2 years this January. So, I like you have some work to do. Hopefully we can help each other. If you have the will, you will do it.

Right now I try to fit in my workouts at least 4 times a week, some weeks I can do that...others I am lucky to get in twice a week... I need to make more time for my workouts but I have been working on getting organized and little projects around the house to get done so that when I do workout I wont be thinking I should be doing something else instead... LOL, I know how sad is that!!

I had back surgery on the 19th December so that put the skids to my exercising. I have been watching what I eat real close since I couldn't exercise. My staples were taken out a couple of weeks ago and I have been working out the stiffness in my back and my doctor is starting me on physical therypy. I have been doing a lot of walking and I plan once I get the stiffness out the rest of the way I will start doing what I was doing before the surgery. I was using the treadmill three times a week. I would do some exercises here in the house. You know sit ups, knee bends and those kind of exercises. Congragulations on losing 5 pounds.

Thank you for your compliment. I'm glad to hear that you are doing good after your back surgery. I know physical therapy will probably work you out good and get you back on track!

I exercise every other night before bed, and I use to have a Jim membership but I had to cut back on my spending so I canceled it, but Iv been thinking of renewing it, but until then I will continue with my nightly workouts, and sometimes I do get a little tired of exercising but I reminded my self of how good I will feel when I'm finished and the reasons why I started exercising because it helps me stay motivated.

I excersise when ever i have free time, which is 10 or 15 minutes here or there. I usually do some push-ups, sit-ups and stuff like that. I also do something where you just use your calfs and go up and down, i don't know what it is called but i really stregthens your calf mussels.

I love how it feels when I work out. It makes me feel wonderful. When I stretch and get my muscles working and burning I feel so energized and ready to take on the world. I work out at least 20 minutes a day because the dance workout I do gets me worked up and sweaty.

I used to walk 3 miles every day, it took me a little less than an hour. Then last summer we got an eliptical and I've been doing that almost every day since Thanksgiving. I did the entire beginner cartridge (Rhonda and I were buds...) and just last week started on the intermediate cartridge (Rhona is whoopin' my butt now). I get up early before work and do the half hour workouts because I really don't have time to do them after work. I'm not looking forward to when the sessions go to 45 minutes, but I know Rhonda's gonna hit me with that soon. I've only been doing it every other day this week, but will pick up the every day very soon. I didn't lose any weight on the beginner cartridge, but I'm sure I will with the intermediate!

I often exercise like an hour a day at the gym on my holidays cause I don't have time to go to the gym when I have classes cause I have to study then. If you ant to lose weight then you have to exercise 2 hours a day and diet as well. That is the best suggesting I can give to you. Morning one hour and at evening one hour. Never exercise just before going to bed and its better if you only have a light snack before you exercise and only eat after you exercise.

It seems anymore that I can never really find the time to set aside to actually exercise though I do a lot of walking and going up and sown stairs everyday. I am usually to worn out after work and all I want to do is relax. Hopefully I will get better at exercising once again when my work schedule returns to normal and is less demanding on me.

I try to exercise as much as I can, I am an avid tennis player and most of my exercise consists of playing tennis. I try to participate in other sports such as football and table tennis as often as I can. I used to do sit ups and press ups but I didnĀ“t find them that effective in building muscle, Since I have started lifting weights and following a high calorie diet I have begun to build more muscle which has in turn helped me with my tennis game.
