How do you convert a mp4 to an avi?

When I burn something from our tv to a disc, then copy it using the program of Nero, the file gets converted to a mp4 file. I want to be able to convert them somehow to avi. Does anyone know how to do this? Or maybe even a program where I can avoid this all together, and it'll just make the file into avis.

Theres one software called FormatFactory, it is free software. It supports wide range of audio, video, picture, and you can convert them from one to another in this software. Try it, I liked it very much, hope you will like it!

This program seems to be doing the trick. It's converting the files for me. Thanks! Too bad I can't seem to adjust the size of the video. Oh well, what you do you expect for no money down.

You can change the video size in FormatFactory, when select video format say "all to avi" in that in output setting there are predefine options are there or by selecting custom you can select your own video size. Thanks and enjoy your videos.

Hi, im not sure thats possible :( And .mp4 is an Audio type file, and .avi is a video file. So i dont think it can be done. But im not sure, so go to www.mediaconverter.org thats probly the best converting site out there, it converts pretty much any type of file into whatever other file you want its great. Good luck :)

I checked out the site. It looks like it could be something I'd use, but it requires I sign up. The signup costs money. I can't really do that at this time, so it's something that will have to stay on the back burner. Thanks though.

I think WinAVI Video Converter is the best. But it is just shareware. You need to pay for it. In China, the most popular converter is Storm Converter. It's free. Um, it's a pity that Storm only has a Chinese edition.
