I have been thinking about getting one but not sure if it will work the way it says. It seems to me that it would amplify everything. You would be able to hear everything and not just what you want amplified. It talks about hearing what others are thinking about you. I wouldn't want that. Think about it you might hear something you don't want to hear. I just am not sure about it. How many of you have every tried this item? If you have tried it how did you like it? What did you like about it or dislike about it? Give me your opinions on it.

Here's the thing about those things.... They show a woman in a crowded Bingo hall wearing one, presumably to better hear the caller. But, let's say the volume of the caller's voice is a 1 and the background noise is a 2. Now, you put a gadget in your ear that amplifies sound by 3 times. That makes the caller's voice a 3 and the background noise.... a 6. Much larger difference between 3 and 6 than there is between 1 and 2, isn't there?
At least, that's the way I see it. It's kind of like when you see those bad sci-fi shows about the dangers of mind reading. You can't make it focus on one voice - you get to hear everything, just louder than it was before.
We used to have one that only amplified the television. It was a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, you plugged the cable (satellite/antenna) into the remote transmitter thingy and then the transmitter plugged into the TV where the cable normally would have been. Then you had big awkward headphones that worked like a radio controlled car or whatever, receiving a signal from the transmitter. Then you turned a dial on the headphones to make them louder or softer. I hated them.

You can actually hear what others are thinking about you?
And I thought I had a problem, I don't need one of those to
now what others think about me.
As a matter of fact, sometimes it is very hard on myself knowing
what others think. It is not always very nice.
And then to get one of those amplify?
Does not sound like a good idea.
I remember years ago in Holland I ordered one of those hearing aids.
Figured I would be able to hear better, and it also swore you could
hear people in the next room.
What a waste of money that was. There was interference in it a lot.
But, then again this thing your talking about is different.
Is it not violating peoples privacy???
But, I cannot imagine it can really let you hear what others are
thinking about you??? Is this really true, can it???
Take care, happy mylotting.

Thanks a lot for your response. It will help me make a informed decision. What it says is you can hear people talking about different things but you can hear them talking just like you right there in there group. I don't think I would want to hear what people are saying.

Scared me there.
That would really be terrible, when everyone knows what everyone thinks. hahaha!
No then I did have one of those. Tried it a couple of times and left it somewhere in a closet. Never used it again.
Seeing as I was working in a factory, my hearing was getting less, I figured this would help. But it was not for me.
Maybe it has improved since then (+/-7 years ago), but I sure will not try it again.
If I need a hearing aid, I will go to the doctor and get a real one.
Good luck on your choice.
Take care.

I had one of those things and let me say, you are right! It makes EVERYTHING louder! I used mine in a restaurant and I heard all the clinks of glasses, the thumps of feet, the clearing of voices, the coughing, snorting, laughing, the finger licking, the nose blowing, chairs scrapping, the silverware dropping, the kitchen help yelling, kids fussing, plates slapping on tables, salt shakers tipping over, eggs frying, TV news going, the russel of papers, change hitting the tables in tips, the cash register opening and closing, opening and closing etc. etc., BUT I barely heard my friend talking to me from across the table because of all the noise!

all hearing aids amplify that is their job, it is for people who are hard of hearing, they need things louder without making people shout. I am sure there is an adjustable volume control, but I have never needed one though.

The reason I was thinking of getting this is when my husband is sleeping I figured I could use this so that the volume of the television would not bother him. After all the responses about it I have decided not to get it.

Thank you for your response. I wouldn't want to hear what people are talking about. First of all it is none of my business and if they are talking about me I would not want to hear. After the responses I got here I am not going to buy one. All the points brought up are very good points.
